Role Summary:

Sun Life is building out its Intelligent automation capabilities, and expanding a US-based team to identify, configure, deploy and support bots and other solutions that can automate manual tasks, improve the client experience and allow our employees to focus on higher-value activities.

The Intelligent Automation Architect drives innovation and maximizes technology investments by designing and implementing scalable, cost-effective solutions across platforms like RPA, JIRA, Power Platform, and emerging technologies such as GenAI and IDP. Reporting to the Director of Process Automation & Application Delivery, the role includes leading Proof-of-Concept initiatives, developing technology roadmaps, and providing technical documentation and support for automation solutions.

The Architect collaborates with product owners, development teams, and IT stakeholders to deliver impactful Intelligent automation opportunities. Key focus areas include understanding data sources, ensuring seamless system integration, and fostering collaboration with architecture and application teams. Additionally, the role involves coaching developers and promoting continuous improvement to unlock the full potential of organizational technologies.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Technical Strategy and Vision
    • Develop and communicate a comprehensive technical vision for solutions that align with business goals and enterprise architecture principles
    • Contribute to the creation of technology roadmaps and strategic planning, driving long-term innovation and growth.
  • Solution Design and Implementation
    • Define, design, and implement robust, scalable, secure, and efficient solution architectures.
    • Lead technical design reviews and guide development teams in adhering to best practices
    • Ensure seamless integration with existing systems, focusing on performance optimization, high availability, and disaster recovery.
  • Technology Research and Adoption
    • Evaluate emerging technologies such as Generative AI (GenAI), Intelligent Document Processing (IDP), and other advancements to identify opportunities for driving business value.
    • Lead proof-of-concepts (POCs) and pilot projects to test and validate new technologies.
    • Develop and present business cases for technology adoption, collaborating with stakeholders.
  • Data Architecture and Integration
    • Analyze and document data sources, flows, and models to design scalable and efficient integration solutions that prioritize data quality, security, and governance.
    • Work closely with data architects and engineers to ensure consistency, integrity, and alignment with organizational standards.
  • Collaboration and Leadership
    • Actively engage with Business, Solution, Data, and Enterprise Architects to ensure alignment in the early phases of projects.
    • Maintain a strong and collaborative relationship with the Enterprise Architect and other stakeholders to ensure adherence to enterprise roadmaps.
    • Foster continuous learning and knowledge sharing within technical teams, leading technical workshops and training sessions.
  • Project Execution and Support:
    • Actively participate in the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and provide guidance to development teams to ensure on-time delivery of high-quality solutions.
    • Support clients during product releases, the go-live process, and post-implementation reviews, ensuring smooth adoption and user satisfaction.
    • Provide technical documentation, on-call support for critical applications, and participate in lessons-learned sessions to identify improvement opportunities.

Core Competencies:

  • Strong analytical skills to assess alternatives, risks, and benefits.
  • Expertise in translating business requirements into technical solutions and creating UML diagrams and architectural artifacts.
  • Effective communication of complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge of formal application development lifecycle methodologies and application testing techniques.
  • Skilled in programming across multiple languages and designing graphic user interfaces.

Education, Experience & Technical Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in a Technical Architect or Solution Architect role.
  • Experience with RPA platforms, JIRA, and Microsoft Power Platform is highly desirable.
  • Deep understanding of architectural patterns, design principles, and software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, etc.).
  • Proven experience designing and implementing complex enterprise-level solutions.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and cloud-native architectures.
  • Strong understanding of data architecture, data modeling, and data integration techniques.
  • Experience with emerging technologies (GenAI, IDP, etc.) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
