Public Outreach Fundraising
Human Rights & Humanitarian Fundraiser - $20/hr + Bonuses
$20/hour guaranteed + bonuses | Paid training | Boston area
Care about human rights, humanitarian aid, fighting poverty, or helping children and families affected by conflict and disaster?
Turn that passion into work you can actually do every day.
Public Outreach is hiring outgoing, passionate people to join our Boston-area fundraising team.
You'll represent leading nonprofit organizations working on issues like humanitarian relief, children's rights, poverty and inequality, civil liberties, and support for communities facing crisis.
No fundraising experience is required. We'll train you.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
This is face-to-face fundraising.
You'll work with a team in public spaces throughout the Boston area, starting conversations about important causes and inspiring people to become monthly donors.
You'll:
Talk with people about humanitarian and human-rights issues
Share stories about people and communities affected by conflict, disaster, poverty, and inequality
Explain how nonprofit organizations are responding
Turn complicated issues into clear, human conversations
Ask people directly to become monthly donors
Work toward individual and team fundraising goals
Receive regular coaching and support from experienced leaders
This isn't petitioning or volunteer work.
You'll be asking members of the public to financially support nonprofit organizations through monthly donations.
THE ISSUES YOU MAY WORK ON
Depending on your campaign, your conversations may involve:
Children and families affected by war and displacement
Humanitarian emergencies and disaster relief
Hunger and global poverty
Refugees and displaced communities
Inequality and economic justice
Human and civil rights
Racial justice
LGBTQ+ rights
Reproductive freedom
Protecting people's rights, safety, and dignity
Campaign assignments can change, but the purpose remains similar - helping nonprofit organizations build the public support they need to continue their work.
YOU DON'T NEED TO BE AN EXPERT
You don't need a nonprofit background.
You don't need to know everything about international affairs or public policy.
We'll train you on the campaign you're representing and teach you how to fundraise.
We're looking for people who are:
Curious about what's happening in the world
Passionate about humanitarian or social-impact issues
Comfortable meeting and talking with new people
Able to communicate serious issues with empathy
Open to different perspectives
Resilient after hearing "no"
Comfortable receiving feedback and coaching
Motivated by goals
Excited to learn
Experience in advocacy, volunteering, community organizing, theatre, hospitality, education, customer service, fundraising, canvassing, or sales can translate especially well - but isn't required.
THE REALITY OF FUNDRAISING
Mission matters. So does performance.
You'll approach people you don't know, start conversations, and eventually ask them to become donors.
Some people will stop.
Some won't.
You'll hear "no" regularly.
You'll need to reset, stay positive, and confidently start the next conversation.
We'll provide paid training, regular coaching, and support from your team.
Your hourly wage is guaranteed. Your results still matter.
PAY & BENEFITS
$20/hour guaranteed base pay
Performance-based bonuses on top of your hourly wage
Paid training from day one
Full-time and part-time opportunities
Regular coaching and development
Opportunities to grow into training and leadership
Health, dental, and vision benefits for eligible full-time employees and their families after 3 months
Paid time off
Employee Assistance Program
This is not commission-only work. Your $20/hour base wage is guaranteed.
SCHEDULE & LOCATION
You'll work with your team at fundraising locations throughout the Boston area.
This is active, public-facing work. Expect to spend much of your shift outdoors, walking, standing, and speaking with people.
You must be able to consistently commit to your scheduled full shifts.
BEFORE YOU APPLY
Please make sure you:
Are 18 or older
Are legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
