The HR Associate plays a key role in delivering a high-quality onboarding and employee experience at STR. This role owns the end-to-end onboarding process for new hires and provides broad HR operational support across employee engagement, events, internships, learning & development, and recruiting coordination.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career HR professional to gain hands-on experience across multiple HR disciplines while working closely with senior HR team members and business partners in a mission-driven, technology-focused environment.

This role is Woburn-based with a hybrid schedule of 1–2 onsite days per week and remote work flexibility.

What You’ll Do

Onboarding & New Hire Experience

  • Own and continuously improve the end-to-end onboarding process to ensure a seamless, compliant, and welcoming experience for all new hires.
  • Serve as the primary HR point of contact for new hires from offer acceptance through their first week.
  • Coordinate and facilitate day-one orientation (in-person and remote), including welcoming new hires and conducting office tours.
  • Partner with IT and internal teams to ensure timely hardware, software, and systems access.
  • Create, maintain, and audit new hire records in ADP and internal HR systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage onboarding schedules, Outlook calendar invites, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Collect, review, and maintain onboarding documentation (offer letters, resumes, I-9s, etc.) with strict attention to detail and regulatory requirements.

General HR Operations & Employee Engagement

  • Provide day-to-day HR operational support, including data entry, document management, and responding to employee inquiries.
  • Conduct regular new-hire check-ins to support successful integration and identify early issues.
  • Support the planning and execution of onsite and virtual employee events, including all-hands meetings.
  • Assist with employee engagement initiatives, including events, internship programs, and learning & development activities.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee data in ADP.
  • Support audit preparation and internal compliance reviews (I-9, OFCCP documentation, training records).
  • Support internship program activities as needed.
  • Provide backup support for recruiting activities, including interview scheduling, resume review, and candidate communications.

What You Bring (minimum requirements)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 1–2 years of experience in an HR, operations, or professional office environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable interacting across all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with HRIS systems preferred (ADP strongly preferred).
  • High attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.
  • Proactive, team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently when needed.
  • U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain a security clearance (required due to DoD-related work).

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
