Job Description

Job Summary: Collect, analyze, and disseminate data for a host of business subject areas within Human Resources. Provide support on various analyses and reporting services that include: conducting complex statistical and quantitative analyses and presenting data in written reports, oral presentations, and graphical displays.  

This position is a benefits-eligible, one-year term appointment.

Job-Specific Responsibilities:

As an HR Data Analyst III, you will join the HR Analytics & Reporting team to transform workforce data into actionable insights for Harvard’s leadership. This role is designed for a curious, analytical professional who excels at bridging the gap between complex data sets and strategic decision-making. You will be responsible for delivering workforce information, educating users on data literacy, and expanding our self-service Analytic Data Discovery portfolio (QlikView).

Key Responsibilities:
 

Data Analysis & Strategic Reporting

  • Analyze & Synthesize: Conduct complex quantitative analyses to identify workforce trends—in areas such as talent acquisition, position management, compensation, learning management, mobility and turnover—translating findings into high-impact reports and dashboards.
  • Strategic Support: Lead data-driven initiatives and special projects that inform decision-making for Harvard’s complex workforce.
  • Expert Communication: Distill analytical findings into accessible insights for diverse leadership audiences and stakeholders.
  • Data Advocacy: Advance institutional analytics by improving data accessibility, advocating for better tools, and educating users on available resources.

Consultation & Business Intelligence

  • Partner with business owners to define requirements, document solutions, and establish project timelines.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the community, troubleshooting workforce data issues and providing guidance on using data to answer business questions.
  • Assist with maintaining workforce data dictionary to advance data literacy.

Technical Operations & Project Management

  • Write programs to analyze data within complex environments (SQL, QlikView).
  • Design and evaluate test data, conduct gap analyses to identify alternative solutions that meet University standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to triage production support issues and maintain system integrity.

 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Advanced Excel: Proficient in using Excel and working with large, complex datasets. Experience in advanced formulas, pivot tables, and modeling. Ability to develop clear and complex visualizations
  • Technical Proficiency: Prior experience with SQL, QlikView, MS Power BI, R, or Python is highly preferred.
  • Communication: Exceptional ability to translate data into clear narratives for non-technical stakeholders.

 

Additional Information

  • Term Appointment: This is a one-year term appointment
  • Standard Hours/Schedule: 35 hours per week

Work Format Details

This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University’s Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
