What is the role?

We are seeking a Howden Middle Market - Private Client Account Managerin Boston, MA or New Hampshire with a hybrid work schedule.

ROLE SUMMARY
 

The Howden Middle Market - Private Client Account Managert is responsible for managing and servicing a portfolio of personal lines and private client accounts within the Middle Market team. This role serves as a trusted day-to-day advisor to clients, coordinating policy placement, renewals, endorsements, coverage reviews, and issue resolution across a range of personal insurance products. Working closely with clients, carriers, producers, and internal service partners, the Account Manager delivers responsive service, supports client retention and growth, maintains accurate account records, and helps ensure that all activity is completed in accordance with company standards and applicable regulatory requirements.

What will you be doing?

Account Management Responsibilities

  • Manage an assigned portfolio of personal lines and private client accounts, providing timely, accurate, and professional service throughout the policy lifecycle.
  • Coordinate new business, renewal, endorsement, cancellation, and remarketing activity, ensuring requests are documented and completed within established service timelines.
  • Review client exposures, existing coverage, policy terms, limits, deductibles, and exclusions, and identify items requiring discussion with the client, producer, or carrier.
  • Prepare renewal materials, coverage summaries, proposals, applications, and other client-facing documentation in partnership with producers and carrier representatives.
  • Obtain quotes and coverage options from insurance markets, compare terms, and support the presentation of appropriate solutions to clients.
  • Process policy changes, certificates, evidence of insurance, billing inquiries, and other service requests while maintaining accurate and complete records in the agency management system.
  • Monitor open items, renewal milestones, carrier requirements, and client deliverables, escalating concerns promptly and driving issues through resolution.

 

Client and Carrier Relationships

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients by understanding their needs, responding with urgency, and delivering a consistent, high-quality service experience.
  • Partner closely with producers, underwriters, carrier representatives, and internal colleagues to support retention, account growth, and coordinated client service.

 

Reporting & Projects

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date client, policy, activity, and documentation records in the agency management system and other approved platforms.
  • Track renewal status, open service items, marketing activity, and account risks, providing clear updates to producers, team leaders, and other stakeholders.
  • Support book reviews, client stewardship activities, retention initiatives, and other projects that improve service quality and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives, process improvements, and team projects supporting the Middle Market and Private Client businesses.
  • Respond to client and account-related inquiries promptly and in line with defined service standards.

 

Compliance, Documentation & Market Awareness

  • Conduct all account activity in accordance with company policies, procedures, quality standards, and applicable insurance laws and regulations.
  • Maintain complete and accurate applications, proposals, policy records, correspondence, approvals, and other required account documentation.
  • Protect confidential client information and follow applicable privacy, data security, and record-retention requirements.
  • Stay informed about relevant carrier appetite, coverage developments, market conditions, and regulatory changes affecting personal lines and private client accounts.

What are we looking for?

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience managing or servicing personal lines, private client, or high-value personal insurance accounts within a brokerage or agency environment.
  • Working knowledge of personal insurance products, policy forms, coverage concepts, carrier processes, renewals, endorsements, and account documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple accounts and deadlines while maintaining accuracy, responsiveness, and strong attention to detail.
  • Client-focused professional with sound judgment, a proactive service mindset, and the ability to build trusted relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to review coverage information, compare options, identify issues, and coordinate solutions.
  • Organized and results-oriented, with the ability to prioritize competing requests, follow through on open items, and escalate appropriately when needed.
  • Ability to interpret and consistently follow policies, procedures, documentation standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Clear, confident verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain insurance information in a practical and client-friendly manner.
  • Collaborative team player who works effectively with producers, carrier partners, and colleagues across functions.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to learning, professional development, and continuous improvement.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and agency management systems; an active Property & Casualty license, or the ability to obtain one within the required timeframe, is preferred.
     

Compensation and Benefits
 

The expected base salary range for this role is $110,000 - $125,000; actual base salary will be determined based on factors including candidate experience and work location. This role is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

In addition to a competitive base salary, employees are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus. Howden also offers a variety of benefits and programs, subject to eligibility, including:
