Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Head of Risk is responsible for leading the risk management function for Geode Capital Management, LLC. This role involves identifying, assessing, monitoring, managing, mitigating, and reporting of relevant risks in a structured, coordinated and consistent manner.

The Head of Risk will design, develop, refine, and implement risk management policies, procedures, and strategies to protect the organization and support Geode’s business objectives, strategy and overall success. The primary owner of investment risk lies with the Chief Investment Officer who will work in concert with the Head of Risk to ensure consistency and communication as it relates to proper risk management practices across all aspects of the firm.

 

This is a hybrid work environment opportunity with a weekly in-office schedule of Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with remote work availability on Mondays and Fridays.

Key Responsibilities:

 

Risk Management Strategy:

  • Develop and implement the company's risk management framework and strategy.
  • Ensure alignment of risk management practices with the organization's priorities and overall objectives.

Risk Identification and Assessment:

  • Identify and assess potential risks that could affect the organization's operations, including technology, operational, financial, strategic, and regulatory risks.
  • Design, operationalize and lead highly effective enterprise risk assessments and scenario analyses to evaluate the impact of identified risks.
  • Lead proactive operational risk assessments to ensure controls are well designed and operating effectively.
  • Conduct due diligence and ongoing oversight of Geode’s key vendors.

Risk Mitigation:

  • Develop and implement risk mitigation plans and controls to manage identified risks.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of risk mitigation strategies and make adjustments as necessary.

Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:

  • Partner with the legal and compliance teams to ensure the organization complies with all relevant governance rules, laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Partner closely with external service providers to identify and assess any risks that may directly or indirectly impact Geode.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and ensure timely and accurate reporting.

Risk Governance and Reporting:

  • Manage Geode’s Risk Management Committee
  • Prepare and present risk reports to the Risk Management Committee and Audit Committee.
  • Implement risk tracking, monitoring, reporting, scorecards and dashboards for the enterprise.
  • Develop and monitor Key Risk Indicators to proactively identify potential issues.
  • Communicate risk-related issues and potential impacts to stakeholders.

Risk Culture:

  • Promote a culture of risk awareness and proactive risk management across the organization.
  • Assist business units with the design of effective controls.
  • Provide training and support to employees on risk management best practices.

Leadership:

  • Lead and manage the risk management team, including hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance team.

Crisis Management:

  • Develop and implement crisis management plans to respond to emergencies and critical incidents.
  • Coordinate crisis response efforts and ensure effective communication during incidents.

Risk Policies and Procedures:

  • Develop, review, and update risk management policies and procedures.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are effectively communicated and implemented across the organization.

Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Collaborate with other departments, such as technology, operations, compliance, finance and legal, to ensure integrated risk management.
  • Work closely with internal audit and compliance teams to address risk-related issues.
