Job Description:

Head of HR Risk and Compliance

The Role

This is a key leadership position which will serve as the Risk and Compliance Lead for Fidelity’s Human Resources Function.  This role will partner closely with senior HR leaders to develop and implement a risk framework and approach that is tailored to the unique risk and compliance profile within HR, including strategic and emerging risk areas.  This role is for someone who is enthusiastic about tackling complex challenges, thrives in an environment that requires continuous learning, and embraces the opportunity to provide objective, independent risk and compliance oversight in protecting Fidelity and our associates.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

This is a dynamic role requiring a proven leader who is adept at building trust with senior leaders and creating and defining risk programs (including proactive risk assessment programs, incident management processes and risk support for key initiatives) and compliance programs (including monitoring new federal, state and local regulations, providing compliance advice to business leaders and testing compliance with regulations) to support the Human Resources function.  This role will also partner with the HR Leadership Team to support key strategic risks in the HR space, including insider threat and data governance programs.

This is a leadership position, which includes direct reports who are also people managers, requiring the ability to set strategic direction for the team and execute against organizational goals.  The leader must be capable of seamlessly oscillating between risk issue response and management of longer-term strategic initiatives.

  • Preferred is at least 15+ years of relevant experience in roles such as Risk Management, Audit, Compliance, Operations or Human Resources.  Strong knowledge of operational risk management practices is a plus.
  • Experience working in or supporting the Human Resources industry is a plus, including familiarity with Human Resources Operations and related Human Resources risks (e.g., data governance, privacy, vendors, operations, technology and confidential data).
  • Prior people management experience is required, along with the ability to set direction for the team amongst competing priorities and demands.
  • A data first mindset is a plus, including leveraging data and analytics to help identify and mitigate areas of risk.

A keen focus on the human resources industry is also necessary to drive evolution and enhancement of the Risk and Compliance team in a rapidly changing environment.  Understanding and adapting to strategic and emerging human resources risks is critical, as well as partnering with senior HR Leaders to evaluate the impact of emerging risk areas.

Additionally, experience and comfort level in building business partner relationships and operating at executive levels is critical– including in identifying, escalating, and influencing outcomes on sensitive risk and compliance issues.  Equally key are excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to distill complex issues into concise and actionable communications and deliver them in executive forums.

The Team

This position is on the senior management team of the Risk organization that supports Fidelity’s Corporate Services (CS), Fund and Investment Operations (FFIO), Global Services (GS) business lines, and Enterprise Resiliency and Crisis Management, and reports directly to the Head of CS, FFIO, GS and Enterprise Resiliency. More broadly, the function sits within the Fidelity Risk Group, which includes the major Risk functions from across the enterprise and employs a range of Risk Management programs and capabilities, as well as several business unit Compliance functions.  Central to the Risk Group’s mission is close collaboration with partners throughout the Firm – including Business Leaders, Legal, Compliance, Audit, and Security – in pursuit of our common goal of protecting the Firm, its associates, and customers.
