About MotherDuck

Don’t let the quirky name fool you: At MotherDuck, we’re on a mission to make data warehousing fun, frictionless, and ducking awesome for developers and data practitioners building blazing fast internal and customer-facing analytics experiences. We're building a cloud-hosted version of DuckDB, working hand-in-hand with the creators of the fastest-growing and fastest-improving query engine on the planet. Unlike other databases, MotherDuck was architected to unify local development with cloud operations to bridge the gap between software and data engineering workflows. Our team is a mix of thoughtful, passionate, and empathetic data industry veterans.

About the role

We're hiring a growth marketer with a hacker brain to own the systems that make our growth engine run... lifecycle, marketing ops, and the data and automation underneath both.

If you're the person who looks at a list of signups and immediately wonders what you could learn by enriching it, splitting it five ways, and testing a different nurture on each... we'd love to meet you. You'll build the segments, lists and audiences everything else depends on, hack and build growth agents, run Clay like a product you own, and use data to push our lifecycle programs 10x further than they are today.

This isn't a role where you wait for a ticket. You'll spot the next enrichment worth testing, propose the workflow that saves the team ten hours a week, and ship it. Some folks call this kind of work go-to-market engineering. We think of it as lifecycle marketing with real technical chops.

What you'll own

Lifecycle marketing, the backbone

  • Become the team's expert on our audiences, and build the segments, lists and audiences that every email, campaign, webinar and nurture runs on

  • Design lifecycle programs across signup, activation, re-engagement and expansion, and test them relentlessly with real data

  • Use product usage and conversion patterns to decide who gets what message, when, and on which channel

  • Report honestly on what moved the number and what didn't... including your own tests

Growth agents and Clay

  • Own Clay end to end. You're the person who pushes it forward, not someone who has access to it

  • Test new enrichments, scoring and signals, keep what works and kill what doesn't

  • Build growth agents and automated workflows that let a three-person team move like a much bigger one

  • Feed better audiences to Google, Meta, LinkedIn and email, in partnership with the performance marketer

Marketing ops

  • Configure webinars and forms, and run the ops side of events: registration flows, segmentation, follow-up and handoff to sales

  • Keep our tools, data and routing clean so the team trusts what they see

  • Proactively propose improvements to how we work. If something's slow, manual or broken, we expect you to say so and fix it

What people should be saying if you're doing ducking awesome
  • "I didn't ask for that segment, but it's exactly what I needed for the campaign."

  • "Every audience I get from them converts better than the last one."

  • "The leads from the webinar showed up enriched, routed and ready to go. I didn't have to dig for anything."

  • "Wait, marketing built that agent? Can we borrow it?"

  • "Clay does things now nobody thought it could, and our lifecycle emails actually get replies."

What we're looking for
  • You want to hack and build growth agents. This is the heart of the role. You've used Claude Code, agents or similar tooling to automate real growth work, and you're itching to build more

  • A passion for understanding user groups. You want to be the expert on our audiences... who they are, how they behave, and how to segment them so every email and nurture lands with the right people

  • A systems brain. You see marketing as a set of inputs, workflows and feedback loops, and you love making them run better

  • Lifecycle experience with numbers attached. You've owned segments, nurtures or re-engagement programs and can tell us what they did to activation, pipeline or revenue

  • Proactive by default. You find the next test, enrichment or fix before anyone asks

  • High-growth company background, ideally somewhere with a technical or developer audience

  • Honest about results. You'll call out a losing test, including your own, as quickly as a winner

  • Clay experience, ideally a workflow you built and can walk us through

  • HubSpot experience at the workflow and data level

  • Comfortable pulling and analyzing your own data, SQL included

  • Webinar or event ops experience tied to pipeline

  • Familiarity with data practitioners or developers as an audience

Our Interview Process

We like to keep things transparent, so here's what to expect if you apply...

  1. Discovery call with our recruiting team to get acquainted and make sure we're a mutual fit

  2. A conversation with our Growth lead to learn about the systems you've built, how you think about audiences and segments, and what excites you about growth agents

  3. A deeper conversation with our Growth team covering lifecycle strategy, how you'd test and measure a program, and a walkthrough of a workflow or agent you've built

  4. A final conversation with our CEO focused on values and vision

Please Apply

Does this role sound appealing to you, but you’re missing some of the requirements or don’t quite think you’re qualified?  Please apply anyway. Research has shown that underrepresented groups in technology often shy away from roles which aren’t a 100% match. We aim to build a diverse team and will strongly consider applicants who bring many of the requirements plus have other experiences which round out their qualifications.

Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
