Position Description
As a Firewall Sustainment Engineer you will support in-service systems for the worldwide network. You will ensure continued operation and maintenance of a system with managed risk. Technical surveillance of critical safety items, approved sources for these items, and the oversight of the design configuration baselines are also part of the sustaining engineering effort. The ability to work shifts during a 24/7 operational requirement is a must. On a daily basis, NSOC Firewall engineers will manage and configure the Palo Alto Firewalls. Along with the strong technical focus of the job, firewall engineers also must engage with clients, communicating information about the project and troubleshooting the issues discovered.
Position Requirements and Duties
- Root cause analysis of in-service problems (including operational hazards, deficiency reports, parts obsolescence, corrosion effects, and reliability degradation)
- Other activities necessary to ensure cost-effective support to achieve peacetime and wartime readiness and performance requirements over a system’s life-cycle
- Troubleshoot network security suite solutions.
- Work in a team setting making recommendations related to troubleshooting, device configuration, and documentation.
- Resolve issues in a timely manner dealing with a variety of different network devices and protocols following applicable reporting formats
- Perform detailed technical analyses for a system, subsystem or system elements
- Exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
- Use professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways
- Technical surveillance of critical safety items, approved sources for these items, and the oversight of the design configuration baselines
- Acting as the on-call firewall engineer for a one week duration.
- Troubleshooting includes not only firewalls, but routing and switching
Minimum Qualifications
- US Citizen
- At least 3 years relevant experience in supporting a large network infrastructure.
- At least 3 years experience with Routers, Switches, Firewalls, and Virtual Private Network devices.
- Have a wide range of experience and be able to apply to various technical situations
- A good understanding of TCP/IP as it relates to routing and subnetting
- Must obtain and maintain Top Secret Clearance, Secret Clearance is acceptable to start

- Cisco Switch configuration
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related discipline is preferred but not required.
