Position Objective
We are seeking a Financial Analyst at FOCUS who will be integral to efforts to use data to improve decision making, increase efficiency, and drive profitability, in a vision driven and growing organization. Ideal candidates will demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities, maximize process efficiency, drive automation, and improve speed to delivery. Working in the Finance team at FOCUS means that you'll always be presented with a variety of new possibilities as you continue to enhance your skills within the Insurance space. This position reports to the Manager, FP&A, and is a hybrid role at our office in Chicago.
What You'll Do
Financial Reporting: Develop tools to provide critical financial analysis to FOCUS and PEAK6 leadership, and key stakeholders to improve decision-making and key performance metrics. Interpret complex financial information and provide updates, forecasts, and information as needed including identifying trends and variance analysis.
Financial Strategy and Planning. Assist in the development budgeting, forecasting, operating plans and long-term strategic forecasts. Support initiatives of FP&A Manager, Director of Finance, and senior management. Act as a liaison between finance and other departments to ensure alignment of financial goals.
Data Analysis: Conduct data analysis and scenario modeling to understand the cost structure and profitability of various insurance product lines. Recommend strategies for cost reduction, efficiency improvements, and revenue opportunities. Manipulate large data sets to analyze historical performance, track industry trends, determine results, and reveal trends.
Risk Assessment: Perform risk analysis related to financial performance, underwriting practices, and market conditions. Support sales teams in assessing the financial implications of claims, commission, reserves, and contracts. Assess existing cost levers and drivers and evaluate new business and revenue opportunities.
Business Partnership: Collaborate closely with FOCUS' FP&A, accounting, and financial operations teams to continuously improve workflow. Have a "Hands on" mentality with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with FOCUS' internal departments and PEAK6 Finance on their ad-hoc analysis. Contribute to the enhancement of internal cost allocation methodologies.
Financial Systems and Automation: Proactively identify opportunities to implement efficiencies and implement internal controls. Play a key role in the development of cross-business standardization and implementation of financial and accounting automation platforms across Focus and Peak6

Essential:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Data Analytics, Accounting, or a related field
- 1-3 years of relevant experience in Finance, FP&A, or data analytics
- Strong knowledge of financial modeling techniques and valuation methods
- Prior industry experience in Insurance strongly preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis software; experience with ERP systems is a plus (Netsuite, Adaptive Insights)
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and effectively.
- Strong grasp of income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statements along with the ability to analyze financial results and assess impact of business decisions.
- Strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills; must be able to convey information to all levels of the organization in a clear, focused, and concise manner
