PEAK6 is seeking a highly qualified Director, Tax to join our Tax team. This person will work with the existing Tax team to lead various tax strategy, compliance, and planning efforts, with a focus on federal and state income tax matters, for significant financial services entities and investments. Reporting to the Head of Tax, this role will ensure compliance with ASC 740, lead tax planning initiatives, support M&A activity, and optimize the company's state and federal tax positions to achieve overall financial objectives. The ideal candidate will bring significant expertise in corporate tax, a strong technical background, and a proven ability to leverage technology and process improvements to enhance tax compliance and reporting functions.
This role is hybrid and can be based out of our Austin or Chicago offices.

Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Reporting:
- Oversee and manage all aspects of federal, state, and international tax compliance, including timely and accurate preparation and filing of corporate income tax returns.
- Lead the preparation and review of income tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740 and ensure ongoing compliance with quarterly and annual reporting requirements.
- Develop, implement, and manage tax processes to meet reporting deadlines and compliance mandates efficiently.
Tax Strategy & Planning:
- Provide strategic tax planning guidance to optimize the company's tax structure, reduce risks, and maximize tax efficiencies.
- Manage tax implications related to new business initiatives, product expansion, and entering into new jurisdictions.
- Advise senior leadership on the impact of new tax laws, regulations, and proposed legislation, ensuring compliance with future requirements and identifying potential opportunities or risks.
Mergers & Acquisitions:
- Play a critical advisory role in M&A transactions, including structuring, due diligence, integration planning, and execution.
- Evaluate and mitigate tax risks related to acquisition and merger transactions, and collaborate with internal and external advisors to ensure seamless transitions.
Tax Technology & Process Optimization:
- Leverage OneSource or similar tax technology platforms to streamline tax compliance and reporting activities.
- Support the implementation of technology tools to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of tax operations.
Team Leadership & Collaboration:
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing tax team, providing strategic direction and fostering professional growth.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Accounting, Finance, and Legal, to align on business activities and their tax implications.
YOUR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related field; CPA and/or MST preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive corporate tax experience, ideally with a mix of public accounting and in-house corporate roles, with prior exposure to the Fintech industry a plus.
- Strong expertise in ASC 740, corporate federal and state income tax compliance, and tax planning.
- Experience with M&A activity, including due diligence, structuring, and post-acquisition integration.
- Working knowledge of tax software and technology tools, with experience using OneSource highly preferred.
- Strong leadership skills, with experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to think strategically while executing operationally.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex tax concepts to non-tax professionals.
