FEC Maritime Salesperson

Position Summary

The First Electronics Corporation (FEC) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Outside Salesperson to drive revenue growth and market expansion in the maritime and subsea industries. This position is responsible for identifying new business opportunities, building and maintaining strategic customer relationships, and closing sales for FEC's high-performance interconnect solutions and engineered components. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of consultative selling, technical acumen, and the ability to navigate complex procurement processes within the maritime and subsea sectors.
Success in this role means achieving and exceeding sales targets, expanding existing key accounts, introducing new products to the market, and strengthening FEC's position with shipbuilders, OEMs, system integrators, and specialized marine contractors. This person thrives in a relationship-driven, entrepreneurial environment and is energized by travel, technical problem-solving, and building long-term partnerships.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Business, Marine Engineering, or related field preferred
  • Equivalent technical sales experience and demonstrated market knowledge may be considered in lieu of degree

Experience:

  • 5+ years of outside sales experience in technical/engineered products, preferably in interconnect systems, cable assemblies, or marine/subsea equipment
  • Proven success in territory development, new customer acquisition, and account management
  • Demonstrated experience selling to maritime, subsea, naval, oil and gas, or heavy industrial markets
  • Strong understanding of customer procurement cycles and ability to navigate complex sales environments

Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of interconnect, connector, and cable assembly products and applications
  • Understanding of maritime industry standards, subsea equipment requirements, and operating environments
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements (IMCA, DNV, ABS, ISO standards as applicable)
  • Proficiency with CRM systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and sales analytics tools

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to engage technical, operational, and executive audiences
  • Strong negotiation, relationship management, and consultative selling abilities
  • Ability to quickly learn technical specifications and translate customer needs into solutions
  • Self-motivated, target-driven, and comfortable with territory independence and self-management

Travel Requirements

Willingness to travel extensively (30-40%) to visit customers, trade shows, and industry events


Job Responsibilities

Territory & Account Management

  • Develop and execute territory sales strategy for assigned geographic region and/or market segment
  • Own sales targets, revenue goals, and activity metrics for the territory
  • Build, maintain, and cultivate long-term relationships with key decision-makers and influencers at customer organizations
  • Identify, qualify, and close new business opportunities across shipbuilders, subsea contractors, system integrators, and OEMs
  • Expand existing account relationships and identify cross-selling opportunities for additional FEC solutions
  • Manage the full sales cycle from opportunity identification through contract closure and order fulfillment

Business Development & Market Intelligence

  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify emerging opportunities and market trends
  • Proactively network and generate leads through industry contacts, trade shows, and online research
  • Stay current on maritime and subsea industry developments, regulatory changes, and customer priorities
  • Attend and represent FEC at relevant industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events
  • Identify and evaluate strategic partners, integrators, and channel opportunities
  • Provide voice-of-customer feedback to guide product development and marketing strategy

Technical Sales & Collaboration

  • Partner with internal engineering and operations teams to develop customized solutions for customer requirements
  • Support bid and proposal efforts with technical specifications, application guidance, and pricing recommendations
  • Communicate complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Translate customer specifications and requirements into feasible technical solutions
  • Support pre-sale and post-sale technical discussions as needed

Administrative & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and timely records in CRM system; track pipeline, forecast, and customer interactions
  • Provide monthly sales reporting on pipeline activity, revenue performance, and achievement against quota
  • Prepare and submit expense reports, travel plans, and other required documentation

Other responsibilities, initiatives, and ad-hoc projects as assigned
