Design scalable, secure enterprise solutions for Baldwin Retail, translating product requirements into technical designs. Build agentic AI and automation, integrate cloud (AWS/Azure), produce ADRs and specifications, evaluate third-party platforms, embed security and compliance controls, collaborate with Product, Security, and Data, and create reusable architecture patterns and prototypes.
The Enterprise Solution Architect designs scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions supporting the Baldwin Retail business unit. Working directly with product owners and technical teams, this role translates product requirements into technical designs, contributes to design standards and reference patterns, and ensures solutions align with enterprise architecture principles. Solutions increasingly include agentic AI and automation components alongside traditional application and integration work. The role operates as a technical individual contributor with meaningful autonomy on solution-level decisions, partnering across Product, Security, Data, and Enterprise Technology.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design solution architectures for Baldwin Retail that are scalable, adaptable, and aligned with enterprise architecture principles and IT strategy.
- Translate product requirements into technical designs, working with product owners to understand business processes and identify challenges.
- Design agentic AI and automation solutions where appropriate, including agent orchestration patterns, LLM integration, human-in-the-loop workflows, and tool/API exposure for agent consumption.
- Contribute to design standards, guardrails, and reference patterns used by engineering teams.
- Evaluate third-party products, platforms, and cloud services; develop build-vs-buy recommendations for architecture leadership.
- Review solution designs with engineering teams to surface risks and architectural gaps.
- Partner with Security, Compliance, and Risk to embed information security, Business Continuity, and Disaster Recovery requirements into designs.
- Collaborate with Data Platform teams on data processing patterns, integration strategies, and access boundaries.
- Produce architectural decision records (ADRs), integration specifications, and design documentation.
- Design and integrate cloud solutions across AWS and Azure, ensuring reliability and operational readiness.
- Prototype new solutions, validating component compatibility and establishing reusable patterns.
- Participate in architecture reviews and design sessions to drive alignment on solution choices.
- Ensure solutions follow cloud best practices for reliability, cost efficiency, observability, and performance.
- Assess emerging technologies, including generative and agentic AI, for applicability to the Retail technology roadmap.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong technical expertise in solution and application architecture, including distributed systems, API design, enterprise integration patterns, and event-driven architectures.
- Solid cloud architecture knowledge across AWS and Azure, including compute, networking, identity, and security controls.
- Working knowledge of AI and automation solution patterns, including LLM integration, retrieval-augmented generation, and agent orchestration frameworks.
- Working understanding of secure design principles and architectural controls for regulated environments (SOX, SOC 2, PCI, PII).
- Ability to translate product requirements into feasible technical solutions and communicate designs to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including root cause identification and evaluation of multiple technical paths under ambiguity.
- Ability to build alignment across product owners and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Familiarity with cloud-native observability, monitoring, scalability design, and performance tuning.
- High degree of ownership and adaptability in a rapidly changing technological and business environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor’s degree is required.
- Ideally, 12 to 18 years of overall experience in software development, design, or solution architecture fields, with a strong background in business and technical solution delivery.
- Demonstrated application development experience, having developed at least one application from scratch across the full development lifecycle.
- Experience designing scalable, secure, highly available systems on AWS and/or Azure.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including clear technical documentation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Hands-on experience designing or delivering agentic AI or intelligent automation solutions in a production environment.
- Experience with Salesforce platform architecture, integration, or solution design.
- Familiarity with Applied Epic or comparable insurance agency management systems.
- Background in insurance or financial services, or equivalent experience in a regulated industry.
