We are seeking an Engineering Manager, Sensor Intelligence (Advance Development) to lead a team of sensor intelligence advanced development engineers to guide the design of the next generation of WHOOP wearables devices including optical and mechanical design to improve the algorithm insight, transforming raw physiological signals into robust, real-time insights.
As a leader, you will combine technical depth in hardware development with insight into optics, mechanical and electrical design, and algorithm design with strong people management skills. You will set direction, drive execution, and partner closely with cross-functional teams to ensure WHOOP’s advanced development is accurate, efficient, and reliable in real-world conditions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and Develop a High-Performing Team: Manage, mentor, and support Sensor Intelligence Engineers focused on advanced development, providing regular feedback, coaching, and clear growth paths.
- Own Testing prototypes: Oversee the design, implementation, and testing of a next generation of WHOOP’s wearable platform, ensuring they perform reliably on resource-constrained devices.
- Collaborate with Cross-Functional Partners: Work closely with Data Science, WHOOP Labs, Firmware, Hardware and Product to define requirements, integration points, and success metrics for the next generation of hardware.
- Champion Engineering Rigor: Establish and uphold best practices for testing, documentation, and observability for new hardware design.
- Contribute to Technical Strategy: Help define the roadmap and long-term strategy for next WHOOP hardware, including platform capabilities, tooling, and approaches for safely updating models in the field.
- Support Recruiting and Org Building: Partner with recruiting to attract and hire top advanced development talent, and help shape the culture and operating model of the Sensor Intelligence Group.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven experience as a technical leader managing multiple teams or a growing engineering organization.
- Experience growing high level individual contributor career growth at the staff level or higher.
- 5+ years of industry experience in signal processing, optical design, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field, including 2+ years in a people management or technical lead role with mentorship responsibilities.
- Hands-on experience developing and optimizing prototypes.
- Proven ability to lead projects end-to-end, collaborating with cross-functional partners and balancing technical tradeoffs against product and business needs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of conveying complex technical topics to diverse audiences and aligning stakeholders around decisions.
- Passion for building high-performing teams, fostering growth, and creating systems that scale to power WHOOP’s mission.
This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.

At WHOOP, we view total compensation as the combination of base salary, equity, and benefits, with equity serving as a key differentiator that aligns our employees with the long-term success of the company and allows every member of our corporate team to own part of WHOOP and share in the company’s long-term growth and success.
The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $150,000 - $215,000. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within each range, individual pay is based on factors such as job-related skills, experience, performance, and relevant education or training.
In addition to the base salary, the successful candidate will also receive benefits and a generous equity package.
These ranges may be modified in the future to reflect evolving market conditions and organizational needs. While most offers will typically fall toward the starting point of the range, total compensation will depend on the candidate’s specific qualifications, expertise, and alignment with the role’s requirements.
