Who You Are: 

You are a seasoned engineering leader and domain architect with deep expertise in retail merchandising technology. With extensive experience in designing robust architectures and leading engineering teams, you are well-versed in merchandising systems, inventory management, pricing strategies, and category management. You have a track record of integrating cutting-edge solutions that align with business objectives, optimize processes, and improve decision-making through data-driven insights. 

Job Summary:

As the Retail Engineering Manager - MerchTech Products, you will shape the technological vision for BJ’s retail merchandising function. Your role involves designing scalable systems, overseeing the implementation of merchandising platforms, and ensuring alignment between business needs and technology capabilities. You will collaborate with business leaders, IT teams, and vendors to build and maintain high-performing merchandising solutions. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Leadership and Management: 

  • Lead the merchandising engineering team, providing technical direction, mentorship, and fostering a culture of innovation. 
  • Develop and execute strategic technology plans aligned with retail merchandising and product goals. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including ERP, Finance, IT, Data Analytics, and Supply Chain, to enhance business capabilities through technology. 

Retail Merchandising Systems & Architecture: 

  • Design and oversee the development of merchandising solutions, including category management, pricing optimization, assortment planning, and inventory control systems. 
  • Define system architecture, integration frameworks, and data models that support scalable and resilient merchandising applications. 
  • Partner with vendors to evaluate and implement third-party merchandising tools, ensuring seamless integration with BJ’s existing retail ecosystem. 

Data-Driven Decision Making: 

  • Develop advanced analytics and AI-driven solutions to enhance Category Management, Promotion management, demand forecasting, pricing strategies, Master data management 
  • Implement data governance and quality best practices to ensure accurate and actionable insights from merchandising data. 

Technology Leadership & Innovation: 

  • Stay updated with emerging technologies in retail merchandising, AI, and automation to drive continuous improvements.
  • Drive innovation by leveraging cloud platforms, microservices architecture, and API-driven integrations to modernize merchandising applications. 
  • Optimize system performance, reliability, and security in line with industry best practices. 

Compliance & Best Practices: 

  • Ensure compliance with retail industry standards, data privacy regulations, and security best practices. 
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including system design, standard operating procedures, and training materials. 

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field. 
  • 7+ years of experience in IT architecture, retail merchandising systems, or enterprise solution development 
  • Proven experience in leading engineering teams and delivering complex technology solutions within a retail environment. 
  • Have prior experience with one or more solution provider like Blueyonder, Oracle, SAP, Relex, O9 
  • Strong understanding of merchandising solutions, category and space management, inventory planning, pricing and promotion engines, and vendor management systems. 
  • Proficiency in cloud-based platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), API integrations, and microservices architecture. 
  • Hands-on experience with retail analytics, AI-driven forecasting tools, and machine learning applications for merchandising. 
  • Knowledge of ERP and POS integrations within retail ecosystems. 
  • Ability to translate business objectives into technology roadmaps and actionable implementation plans. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on driving efficiency and business growth. 
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders and influence decision-making. 
  • Leadership Competencies: - Enterprise Mindset: Ability to align technology strategies with overall business objectives. 
  • Strategic Planning: Skilled at defining long-term architecture while driving quick wins for immediate business impact. 
  • Proactive Problem-Solving: Takes initiative in identifying challenges and proposing innovative solutions. 
  • Change Management: Experience in leading digital transformation initiatives within a retail organization. 

This is a hybrid role. Tuesday through Thursday are in-office days at BJ's Club Support Center in Marlborough, MA and Monday and Friday are remote days.

In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position. At BJ’s Wholesale Club, we carefully consider a wide range of non-discriminatory factors when determining salary. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, education, experience, and qualifications. The pay range for this position is starting from $125,500.00.
