About the role

We're hiring a hands-on Engineering Lead to own one of BizzyCar's engineering pods (spanning areas like API, Web, Mobile, Data, or AI depending on team need) and drive it from daily execution through long-term roadmap delivery. This is a builder-manager role: you'll be in Jira and Confluence every day keeping work scoped, linked, and visible; you'll carry direct technical ownership of a core product or feature area end-to-end; and you'll represent your team's priorities, risks, and progress to the VP of Engineering and other stakeholders.

This Engineering Lead will run the API, Web, and Mobile business units, leading the product-aligned engineering teams across those three areas and owning delivery, priorities, and technical direction for each.

You'll work closely with peer Engineering Leads across the org, with Product and Customer Success, and with BizzyCar's VP of Engineering to keep cross-team dependencies visible and sprint priorities aligned — particularly during team transitions, ownership handoffs, or shifting capacity. This role suits someone who is equally comfortable writing code, running a sprint, and documenting a release.

Responsibilities

  • Lead API, Web, and Mobile engineers across four business units, setting technical direction and keeping priorities aligned across all three.
  • Own your team's day-to-day execution: run sprint planning, backlog grooming, and standups, and keep tickets properly scoped, estimated, and unblocked.
  • Maintain your team's Jira board and keep it correctly linked to the org-wide Engineering Priorities (EP) board so leadership has accurate, real-time visibility into status.
  • Take direct, hands-on technical ownership of a core product or feature area — from requirements and architecture decisions through code review and deployment.
  • Partner with the VP of Engineering on team capacity planning, reprioritization, and ownership transfers when scope shifts across teams or team composition changes.
  • Write and maintain clear release notes and technical documentation in Confluence for every release cycle, and keep runbooks current for your team's systems.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with Product, Customer Success, and other engineering teams to surface dependencies early and keep initiatives moving.
  • Conduct code reviews, move change sets through the deployment pipeline, and participate in on-call and incident response — including root-cause analysis and postmortems.
  • Mentor and develop engineers on your team: give regular feedback, support career growth, and help build a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Represent your team in engineering leadership syncs and deliver clear, concise status updates to the VP of Engineering, CTO, and other executives.
  • Identify and drive process or tooling improvements — reporting automation, sprint dashboards, documentation standards — that improve team efficiency and cross-org visibility.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Strong, hands-on production experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
  • Strong, hands-on production experience with Angular.
  • Experience leading engineers across multiple teams or product areas, ideally spanning API, Web, and Mobile.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience leading engineers in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment — as a lead, manager, or senior IC with informal leadership responsibility.
  • Strong hands-on technical ability; comfortable writing and reviewing production code, not just managing a roadmap.
  • Power user of Jira and Confluence: sprint boards, epics, cross-board linking, and living documentation are second nature to you.
  • Track record of owning a feature area or product surface end-to-end, from scoping through production support.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication — able to translate technical detail for executives and translate business priorities into engineering tasks.
  • Experience managing ambiguity: reprioritizing work, absorbing scope from a departing teammate, or realigning a team after a change in leadership or structure.
  • Comfortable owning incident response and writing clear postmortems that lead to real process change.

Technology

  • Ruby and Ruby on Rails (must-have)
  • Angular (must-have)
  • JIRA/Confluence power user — experienced managing tickets, sprints, epics, and cross-team roadmaps.
  • Solid understanding of Node.js and modern web/API development.
  • AWS (or equivalent cloud) experience, with the ability to evaluate and recommend technology solutions.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and GitHub-based code review workflows.
  • Bonus: experience with AI/LLM-integrated features or data pipelines is a plus given BizzyCar's growing AI surface area.
