Who you are
You are a forward-thinking tech-savvy engineering leader that thrives on building things with real-world applications that you and your friends could talk about. You take pride in managing large, complex technical challenges and are comfortable pushing forward development standard methodologies across the engineering team. You get energized from being the inspiring leader on the team to help make products scalable and reliable, and impart knowledge to those around you. You also have the experience, instincts, and analytical mindset to make quality, timely decisions.

You are passionate about designing systems that power great end-user experiences and care deeply about system performance, especially where it impacts customers. You have worked in environments where you owned system design from the database to the API. You enjoy discussing these decisions with your peers and can explain their significance to external stakeholders.
You ideally have at least five years of experience developing in back-end web and API environments. We write most of our core systems in Ruby on Rails, but we are flexible on your specific experience; we care more about general engineering acumen than any specific tech. We would be really impressed if you had experience in eCommerce, payment systems, or the food and beverage technology space.
What the role is
In this Staff Software Engineer position, you will play an essential role on the engineering team by bringing an innovative mindset to scaling our web applications. You will need to be highly experienced in back-end technologies and take a proactive approach to scaling many complex systems. As a technical leader at Drizly, you will be owning architecture decisions as we continue to scale to serve our customer's needs. By partnering closely with product managers and other engineering leaders, you will balance “having your hands on the keyboard” with leading design discussions for large projects and informing some of our largest decisions for your team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for some of the most critical parts of Drizly’s customer base like our web and app shopping experiences.
Please note: this role can be performed remotely anywhere in the United States with the exception of Colorado.
In this role you will:
- Execute on building scalable and reliable back-end web applications
- Write well tested, performant code and participate in code reviews with the team.
- Participate in technical design and architecture discussions with the team
- Work with the engineering organization to level up code quality and system design
- Consult with the business on the feasibility and/or level of effort required for certain projects
- Provide technical guidance to more junior team members
