SharkNinja is looking for a highly-motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the R&D team within Shark Engineering. We seek a creative problem solver who possesses an intuitive grasp of physics and engineering fundamentals, is equally comfortable hacking together a prototype in the lab or analyzing the results of a test, and is passionate about solving the tough engineering challenges required to be the first to deliver innovative new kitchen products to market. 

The R&D team is responsible for “how things work” in our products. New technologies and innovations must be implemented within tight constraints and on accelerated timelines. To accomplish that, the Senior Mechanical Engineer participates in idea generation, prototype design and construction, and working with a cross-functional team to determine what our new products should be and how to make them. They run tests, gather data, analyze it, and develop theories that may be referenced in product development here for years to come – or overturned with tomorrow’s test results as they build an even deeper understanding of how things work. 

This role is involved heavily at the front-end of the product development cycle but also supports products all the way up to mass production, continuously working to push the limits of product performance. The Senior Mechanical Engineer works collaboratively with other engineers in R&D as well as other disciplines ranging from Electrical Engineering to Product Marketing in the pursuit of making amazing, 5-star-rated products. They must be prepared to work, think, and lead cross-functionally, and must be able to understand better than anyone else how products function, why they don’t work, and how to make them work better. 

Attributes & Skills:

• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering/physics fundamentals including heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical design 
• Solid analytical skills, strong attention to detail, and relentless drive to identify potential problems and take responsibility for their resolution 
• Natural curiosity, positive attitude, and proven ability to deliver robust, elegant, and innovative solutions to complex design challenges 
• Ability to quickly, effectively, and concisely communicate with both technical and non-technical colleagues both verbally and in writing 
• Comfortable multitasking and responding quickly to shifting priorities without losing sight of longer-term projects and goals 
• Understanding of other disciplines within Product Development and ability to collaborate across them including Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Industrial Design, User Experience, Quality/Manufacturing, and Marketing 

Qualifications:

• BS or MS in Engineering (Mechanical or similar discipline) 
• 5+ years of related experience in product design and development 
• Experience with hands-on prototype development in plastic and metal including using basic machine shop tools and 3D Printing 
• Experience with electronics (analog/digital), test equipment, and components common in small appliances (sensors, motors, heaters, PCBAs, etc.) 
• Familiarity with production processes such as injection molding and sheet metal forming, as well as prototyping techniques such as 3D printing and machining 
• Proficient CAD user 
• Advanced skills in using Excel (or similar programs) to organize and analyze test data
