This position is based onsite in Waltham, MA.

Job Description

In an agile R&D development environment, the incumbent designs and programs embedded software as part of the maintenance and development of new software for new products related to the test and measurement market. The incumbent works in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams in a state-of-the-art environment.

 

Specific Responsibilities

 

 

  • System Requirements and Features:
    • Contribute to the development of the Product Backlog and the Sprint Backlog;
    • Participate in Sprint Planning, Sprint Review, Sprint Retro meetings;
  • Architecture :
    • Contribute to the definition of the optimal architecture of the software;
    • Define and deploy a continuous integration and refactoring strategy, in collaboration with the DevOps team;
    • In collaboration with the cybersecurity champion, design security controls into the system architecture;
  • Product Design:
    • Support the iterative design of complete embedded software;
    • Identify, select and ensure the development of interfaces and communication protocols between the various software and hardware components;
    • Ensure optimal use of the resources used by the Firmware, such as Multi-Core CPUs, GPU, DSP, FPGA and memory;
    • Manage and ensure backward compatibility of the software;
    • Develop firmware and embedded software using secure coding standards and eliminate common vulnerabilities;
    • Build and maintain security mechanisms;
    • Implement  effective Code Reviews for the team;
    • Participate in Daily Scrum Meetings (DSM).
  • Product verification and validation:
    • Ensure that the design meets the expectations of the Definition of Done at the end of each Sprint;
    • Ensure the implementation and execution of automated tests in the continuous integration environment;
    • Ensure the development of diagnostic tools (Spy);
    • Work to continuously reduce the software quality debt;
    • Perform vulnerability assessment and security testing;
  • Transfer to production:
    • Contribute with the project manager and the DevOps team to the planning of the work required for the transfer to production;
    • Ensure efficient transfer to production by providing a set of production engineering tools to verify electronics assembly and perform product calibration.
  • General Responsibilities 
    • Support less experienced software designers working on the same project;
    • Support the introduction and optimize the use of new methods and tools according to the company's technological direction;
    • Collaborate with the various stakeholders to resolve inter-departmental technical problems including cybersecurity issues;
    • Promote inter-site work and ensure an effective and open link with counterparts in other sites.
  •   Be involved and actively participate in the development and implementation of the culture of continuous improvement.

 

Technical skills:

 

 

·       Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or equivalent;

·       5 years of experience in embedded software design;

·       Advanced experience with microcontrollers and access libraries;

·       Ability to program in a Windows or Linux environment;

  • Ability to program in C/C++;

·       Ability to program in Python, an asset;

  • Experience with optimization techniques (speed, memory space, multi-threading, ...);
  • Knowledge of a decentralized version control tool (git, mercurial, ...);
  • Experience with Design Patterns;
  • Experience with secure development lifecycle is preferred;
  • Fluency in mathematics (linear algebra and trigonometry);
  • Experience with schematic representation (UML) is an asset;

·       Have made a significant contribution to the development of commercially successful products;

·       Knowledge of test and measurement applications;

·       Intermediate English.

Salaried:

Pay Range $95,000 - $130,000 base salary depending on experience plus 10% annual bonus target.

Additional Information

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary rate for this role is currently $95,000 - $130,000. The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com.
