Position Overview

We are looking for someone with the ability and desire to work towards the continuous improvement of our home energy modeling software with a specific focus on the energy simulation and support of industry standards. Our vision is that this person will become an expert in software engineering with a strong focus on energy modeling and building science.

Responsibilities


Software development to support energy-related software improvements, including:

  • Enhancement and maintenance of the Ekotrope energy simulation engine, both for Ekotrope RATER and Ekotrope CODE. 
  • Implementing new codes and standards into the Ekotrope Rating tool, e.g. state energy code paths, ENERGY STAR or DOE Efficient New Homes programs.
  • Maintaining and updating currently supported codes and standards, like the RESNET Standards or IECC Energy Codes.
  • Have eye-level collaborative discussions with our other energy model developers to find the best paths forward to improve our calculations.
  • Provide energy modeling support to other members of the company and answer some energy modeling questions from our customers.
  • Incorporate AI-assisted development tools to enhance productivity and explore new approaches to problem-solving. Share ideas and feedback to help improve both the product and the development process.


Requirements

  • Alignment with our Vision, Mission & Values
  • Strong software development experience. Java fluency is preferred (our stack is mostly Java), but other object oriented programming can suffice.
  • Significant understanding of principles of heat transfer and building science
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, both technical and interpersonal
  • Passion for growth and learning
  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, with coursework in thermodynamics
  • Ability to come into our Downtown Boston office (19 Kingston St) ~1 day per week.
