POSITION SUMMARY: The Employee Relations Manager will play a pivotal role in enabling a positive work environment, fostering strong relationships between employees and the organization while ensuring fair and equitable treatment of all employees. With a focus on conflict resolution, policy enforcement, and compliance with employment laws and regulations, the Employee Relations Manager serves as a trusted advisor and resource for employees and management alike.

Your expertise will be instrumental as you track and resolve employee relations matters in a fast-paced environment.  More specifically, you will conduct investigations, advise, and guide managers on disciplinary actions, including performance improvement plans, prepare detailed documentation and ensure timely case resolution while owning matters beginning to end. The successful candidate will have the ability to demonstrate flexibility and maintain focus while managing changing demands and priorities.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a primary contact to manage the performance management processes for both hourly and salaried employees, including coaching and counseling support

  • Partner with leaders to develop and monitor the implementation of a performance improvement process with non-performing employees and reviews, guides and approves management recommendations for employment terminations.

  • Advise and guide managers on disciplinary actions, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal regulations

  • Conduct thorough and impartial investigations into employee complaints, allegations of misconduct or violations of company policies; recommend follow up actions, as necessary, and ensure all appropriate next steps are followed.

  • Serve as a primary point of contact to investigate workplace issues and conflicts providing guidance, support, and resolution strategies

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to employee relations activities, ensuring confidentiality and data privacy

  • Collaborate with HR business partners, legal counsel, and management to ensure consistency and compliance in addressing complex employee relations issues and mitigate risk to the organization 

  • Develop and implement employee relations policies, procedures, and training programs to promote a culture of respect, fairness, and professionalism

  • Train managers and supervisors on best practices for handling employee relations matters, including performance management, disciplinary actions, and terminations

  • Stay updated on employment laws and regulations to ensure compliance and mitigate potential liabilities

  • Analyze trends and patterns in employee relations issues; identify areas for improvement, and recommend proactive measures to address root causes

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:

  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations with the ability to interpret and apply them in a practical manner.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse stakeholders.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal day to day guidance.

  • Creative problem-solver with the ability to think strategically, analyze data, identify trends, and develop actionable recommendations.

  • Keen attention to detail, sound judgment, tact, and diplomacy.

  • Proactive identification of employee relations issues and risks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 8 yrs experience in employee relations, performance management, conflict resolution and conducting investigations.

Pay Range:

The pay range for this position is $114,800.00 to $157,850.00* which reflects the minimum wage in multiple jurisdictions. The actual range will depend on the locality in which you are hired.

Bonus Plan Details (if applicable):

Bonus - Annual Incentive Plan Target, 25% Annual

SUSTAINABILITY INNOVATION

Republic’s recent innovations to advance circularity and decarbonization demonstrate our unique ability to leverage sustainability as a platform for growth.

The Republic Services Polymer Center is the nation’s first integrated plastics recycling facility. This innovative site processes rigid plastics from our recycling centers, producing recycled materials that promote true bottle-to-bottle circularity. We also formed Blue Polymers, a joint venture with Ravago, to develop facilities that will further process plastic material from our Polymer Centers to help meet the growing demand for sustainable packaging. We are building a network of Polymer Centers and Blue Polymer facilities across North America.

We continue to advance decarbonization at our landfills. As demand for renewable energy continues to grow, we have 70 landfill gas-to-energy projects in operation and plan to expand our portfolio to 115 projects by 2028.
