Role Overview
Our client is seeking a results-driven Director, E-Commerce to own the strategy, P&L performance, and operational execution of our rapidly growing direct-to-consumer (DTC) channel. This leader will define the end-to-end digital customer experience—from site UX and merchandising to technology stack and conversion rate optimization (CRO). You will align Creative, Product, Marketing, Finance, and Operations around a clear e-commerce roadmap, drive meaningful revenue growth, and ensure the digital platform supports the company’s long-term strategic goals.
The ideal candidate pairs strong commercial and technical acumen with a deep commitment to delivering a high-performing, customer-centric digital storefront.
Key Responsibilities
E-Commerce Strategy & Financial Ownership
  • Own the E-Commerce P&L, including budgeting, forecasting, and driving accountability for all revenue, margin, and operating expenses related to the DTC channel.
  • Define the long-term digital strategy and roadmap for the e-commerce channel, ensuring alignment with overall company goals and market opportunities.
  • Direct the overall site taxonomy, navigation, and user experience to maximize product discoverability and streamline the path-to-purchase.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for product lifecycle management online, ensuring data integrity and effective SKU enrichment and categorization.
  • Actively lead site UX development by partnering with design, reviewing key customer flows, and participating in testing to ensure a frictionless shopping experience.
Conversion & Customer Experience Leadership
  •  Own the strategy for Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO), setting goals, directing resource allocation, and overseeing the testing roadmap across all site funnels.
  • Drive advanced personalization and recommendation engines (e.g., Dynamic Yield, Nosto, Bloomreach) to deliver individualized customer experiences at scale.
  • Utilize advanced analytics (GA4, Looker Studio) to identify systemic friction points and define major, high-impact site improvements.
  • Direct the planning and flawless execution of all high-priority site initiatives, including seasonal launches, sitewide promotions, and major new product rollouts.
Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Governance
  • Partner with Creative and Content teams to ensure merchandising assets reflect brand standards and support the user journey.
  • Conduct regular QA/UAT to verify accuracy of content, product data, SEO tags, and technical functionality across desktop and mobile.
  • Drive continuous improvements across merchandising, CRO, and site operations, ensuring the team follows consistent processes that support ongoing growth and performance.
What We’re Looking For
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in E-Commerce leadership, with at least 3 years in a Director or Senior Manager capacity, preferably managing a high-growth DTC brand.
  • Proven track record of P&L management and successfully scaling a multi-million dollar e-commerce business.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with experience building, coaching, and managing a team of direct reports.
  • Mastery of digital shopping behavior, advanced funnel optimization techniques, and interpreting complex analytics to inform strategic investment decisions.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Estimated salary range: $120,000 – $150,000, commensurate with experience and scope of responsibilities.

Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)

  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
