Job Description

Overview

The Technical Project Management Office (TPMO) Leader is responsible for driving the execution of complex, cross-functional technology and platform projects from strategy through delivery. This role leads a team of Technical Project Managers who orchestrate enterprise technology and platform projects flowing through Bose Audio Labs, ensuring alignment between engineering execution, product strategy, and business unit awareness.

This leader will own and operationalize the Bose Audio Labs workflow framework that enables predictable, high-quality delivery of platform technologies and IP into multiple Business Units—including Automotive, Consumer Audio, Luxury, and Audio Tech Licensing. Success in this role requires balancing agility with rigor: integrating Agile delivery models utilized by technology & platform teams with Waterfall delivery to Business Unit engineering teams to ensure synchronized, on-time and on-quality system reference design delivery.

The ideal candidate blends deep technical understanding with program leadership, governance discipline, business & financial acumen, and organizational influence to scale Bose’s technology-led operating model and accelerate value delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead the TPMO organization, overseeing a portfolio of cross-functional technology & platform projects.
  • Influence, interpret, and drive actions in support of enterprise & organizational goals, platform roadmaps, and architectural direction for enterprise technology stacks.
  • Partner with Product Management, Systems Engineering, Platform Delivery and other organizational leaders to translate enterprise strategies into actionable project plans (i.e., clearly defined objectives & business value, measurable outcomes, dependencies, milestone schedules, staffed for success), utilizing the best of Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies.
  • Forge strategic partnerships with Business Unit PMOs to institutionalize timely, transparent collaboration: channel user/business needs into the Platform org, publish portfolio & roadmaps to BUs, and synchronize predictable integration of platform technology into BU programs.

Execution Excellence

  • Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of programs—from initiation and planning through execution and closure—ensuring technical and business objectives are met on time within scope and budget.
  • Drive execution excellence across Agile Release Trains (ARTs) by reinforcing SAFe practices for planning, cadence, and continuous improvement; ensure disciplined execution through well-facilitated PI events, dependency management, and risk mitigation.
  • Integrate Agile and Waterfall delivery models into a cohesive hybrid framework that enables effective coordination between iterative platform teams and milestone-driven Business Unit programs—balancing flexibility, predictability, and compliance needs across complex hardware and regulated environments.
  • Establish and own an enterprise-level risk management system that enables early identification, assessment, and mitigation of delivery and portfolio risks. Provide visibility into systemic risks across programs—distinguishing between strategic risks worth taking and tactical risks requiring mitigation—to inform investment decisions, focus areas, and leadership tradeoffs.

Governance, Metrics, and Process Improvement

  • Establish and mature project workflow standards, governance frameworks, and operating rhythms that scale across Bose Audio Labs.
  • Define and track key performance indicators (i.e., Platform ROI, PI Predictability/Velocity, Lead Time, Requirements/Design/Test Case Traceability, Defect Rate, etc.) to measure portfolio performance, project delivery health, and to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Implement process improvements to reduce operational friction, strengthen dependency management, and improve visibility into value, flow, and quality.
  • Partner with Finance and project teams to forecast and manage platform project budgets, resources, operational efficiency, and change management.
  • Ensure applicable programs—particularly those targeting Automotive applications—adhere to ASPICE and related compliance standards, coordinating with Systems and Quality Engineering to meet process and documentation requirements.  Tailor other deliverables to follow minimum ASPICE methodology to create commonality to Automotive wherever possible

People Leadership & Capability Building

  • Recruit, lead, and develop a high-performing team of Technical Program Managers with the skills and mindset to operate within a modern, technology & platform-centric delivery model, not a product delivery mindset
  • Coach TPMs to balance technical depth with systems thinking, communication, and strategic alignment.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, learning, and innovation through collaboration, consistent with Bose’s Essence and Values.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a liaison between technical teams (engineering, systems, architecture) and business stakeholders (product, strategy, finance) to ensure alignment and informed decision-making.
  • Communicate complex technical and delivery topics clearly to executive audiences, surfacing insights, risks, and recommendations.

Qualifications

Experience

  • 8+ years in technical program or project management, with 3–5 years leading teams or managing an enterprise-level TPM function.
  • Demonstrated success delivering large-scale software or platform projects that span multiple engineering domains (software, firmware, hardware).
  • Proven experience operating in hybrid delivery environments, integrating Agile teams with Waterfall programs, and managing dependency alignment across both.
  • Experience working within or adjacent to regulated industries (e.g., Automotive, Medical Devices, Aerospace); ASPICE experience strongly preferred.
  • Background in implementing or maturing Agile delivery frameworks (e.g., SAFe, Scrum@Scale) within engineering or R&D organizations.
  • 3+ years in a hands-on engineering technical contributor role.

Technical & Program Expertise

  • Strong technical acumen with the ability to understand system architecture, integration challenges, and design tradeoffs.
  • Expertise in end-to-end program management—scoping, planning, risk management, dependency tracking, and performance measurement.
  • Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, or similar tools for project/portfolio tracking and reporting.

Leadership & Communication

  • Skilled at building trust and alignment across diverse technical and business stakeholder groups.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills with the ability to translate technical complexity into actionable insight for executives.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams through organizational transformation and influence without authority.

Education & Certifications

  • BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field is required.
  • MS degree in Engineering and/or MBA preferred.
  • Certifications such as SAFe SPC, PMP, or Agile Program Management are a plus.
