SMX is seeking a Director of Business Development, with experience successfully leading and growing high-visibility, mission-focused, large-dollar value enterprise technology transformation programs focused for Air Force and Space Force customers – for example  Hanscom (PEO C&N, PEO ES, PEO NC3, PEO C3BM), AFRL, AFLCMC customers, Space Force PEOs such as BMC2, Space Domain Awareness and Ops test and training infrastructure. This position will partner together with our program leadership supporting AF and SF.

The candidate will have overall responsibility for AF/SF business development strategy, planning, and execution in strategic accounts. Successful candidates will demonstrate the experience to manage the full scope of business development practices including market alignment, opportunity pipeline development and sustainment, customer development and management, and support proposal development activities.  The ideal candidate must be able to leverage a deep mission understanding of customers’ needs and objectives focused in the areas of Cloud, Cyber, Development, Digital Modernization, Data, and Systems Engineering & Integration.

We are looking for a builder with a deep track record of success creating and growing AF/SF focused solutions businesses that can leverage SMX’s national position as a leader in cloud and digital transformation solutions. This role is a unique opportunity to build, manage, and grow a focused solutions business providing world class innovation.

This position will be hybrid with a strong preference for candidates who live close to HANSCOM AFB.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities are primarily focused on being an individual contributor, but it is important to be able to work in a team setting and leveraging the skills of other team members throughout the organization. You will be a conduit and work closely with the business units and growth teams. Willingness to support company initiatives. You will perform market analysis, strategic business planning, capture strategy/solution development, customer engagement and support proposal responses. This position will include oversight of customer contact and positioning; management of an opportunity pipeline, forecasting, and capture management; teaming interactions; and coordination with other internal business development, program management, solution architecture, and growth resources available across the company in the development of winning proposals.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 8 years of related experience in the DOD market
  • Extensive experience (minimum 6 years) selling or supporting solutions for the AF/SF mission in target accounts/markets; Working knowledge of missions, cultures, organizational components, leadership, major programs, challenges, and buying trends
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Track record of successfully capturing and winning >$25M multi-year new business RFPs
  • Established relationships with AF/SF customers, stakeholders, and influencers, with demonstrated ability to develop and foster new relationships
  • Experience interacting with and briefing senior government and industry acquisition officials
  • Understanding the full business development lifecycle and has been successful in various customer domains within the federal markets
  • Proactive, organized, and highly skilled professional
  • Experience with contributing to proposals and the RFI, RFQ, or RFP process
  • In-depth knowledge of the competitive landscape and existing contracts within the AF/SF markets
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, while maintaining a positive attitude, strong drive for results
  • Collaborative and proactive work across SMX to achieve broader company growth objectives while maintaining connectivity to the program/contract executing managers
  • Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation and excellence

Desired Skills & Experience 

  • Clearance Preferred: TS/SCI
  • Additional knowledge and experience with adjacent capabilities in the areas of Enterprise IT; Cyber Operations, ITSM and Managed Services; Data Center, Cloud and Cloud Migration; Data Transport and Systems Integration; Application Development and Modernization; Big Data and Data Analytics is a plus
  • Prior military service with the AF is highly desired

The SMX salary determination process takes into account a number of factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories, relevant prior work experience, specific skills, education and certifications. The proposed salary for this position is:

$160,000$240,000 USD
