About this role
Team Overview
BlackRock SMA Solutions helps clients customize portfolios for unique tax, values-alignment, or investment exposures across direct indexing, fixed income, active equity, and multi-asset. We deliver world-class service to all of our clients, from wealth advisors to family offices to endowments and foundations.
About the Role
With over $230B in client assets across direct index and active strategies, SMA Solutions is a rapidly growing business within USWA (~10% org growth rate). Our personalized portfolios utilize individual securities, BlackRock Mutual Funds, and iShares ETFs to customize, diversify, and tailor investment solutions to high net worth/ultra-high net worth and institutional clients.
We are seeking a highly experienced leader with deep expertise in the Separately Managed Accounts to lead the organization towards the next generation of BlackRock’s SMA platform. The role combines deep knowledge of Aladdin technology with a broad knowledge of SMA products to provide BlackRock with an SMA platform that can be used for the needs of various clients.
Responsibilities:
- Stand up and run complex projects/programs from zero to one: define program structure, scope, governance, operating cadence, and measurable outcomes; lean into ambiguity to create clarity and momentum.
- Own top‑of‑house reporting & RAG governance: develop the single source of truth for executive stakeholders; maintain RAG status, critical path, risk/issue logs, mitigations, and dependencies across workstreams.
- Program-level agile leadership: facilitate planning, cross‑team alignment, and system/solution demos; use flow and quality metrics to inform decisions and forecast outcomes.
- Business architecture & requirements: lean on various SMEs to connect investment, trading, compliance, and operations workflows to product and technical epics; define feature priorities and acceptance criteria with a robust KPI framework.
- Stakeholder alignment: build trusted partnerships across product, engineering, operations, risk, data, and other partners across both SMA Solutions and Aladdin organizations; manage trade‑offs and negotiate scope to land value on schedule.
- Change management at scale: prepare operating teams for adoption (process, controls, training) and ensure production readiness and run‑state ownership.
- Financials & capacity: align budgets, forecasts, and staffing plans; track burn vs. value, ensuring investment is tied to quantifiable outcomes.
- Continuous improvement: codify program standards, templates, and playbooks (artifacts, cadences, metrics) and roll them across SMA initiatives.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years in financial services leading cross‑functional programs at scale (product + engineering), with direct experience in SMA technology, Aladdin implementations, and portfolio lifecycle (portfolio construction, trading, compliance, post‑trade).
- Proven success standing up large, ambiguous programs and converting strategy into incremental delivery across multiple teams.
- Strong working knowledge of Aladdin (data structures, workflows, APIs) and Aladdin implementations for various clients.
- Mastery of program‑level agile (PI planning, metrics‑driven delivery, release planning, scaled frameworks) and executive‑level reporting (RAG, risks, dependencies, benefits)
- Executive presence with excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills; comfortable influencing at all levels.
- Exceptional ability to influence without authority at all levels of corporate ranks.
- Demonstrated success in building and delivering complex platform products in a matrixed organization
- Experience working with engineering and design teams using Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (MBA, CFA, etc.) a plus.
