The Opportunity

The Director of Sales Effectiveness & Operations will build and lead the field-facing capabilities that turn Amylyx’s commercial direction into consistent day-to-day sales execution and prepare the organization for product launches. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Sales, this leader will own the detailed design, deployment, and continuous improvement of sales force effectiveness, field processes, customer relationship management workflows, performance insights, and enablement programs. The role will work within enterprise priorities, planning assumptions, and governance established with Business Operations and cross-functional partners, while remaining accountable for how those priorities are operationalized for sales leaders and field teams. This is an opportunity to shape a critical function, develop a high-performing team, and help advance therapies for people living with diseases of high unmet need. 

Responsibilities. 

  • Partner with Senior Vice President of Sales and assist on executing commercial priorities in the field.  Coordinate and track territory and regional trends into actionable solutions.
  • Coordinate with field and internal stakeholders on quarterly business reviews and analyze regional data sets with regional sales directors to share lead and lag indicators for evaluation and improvement.
  • Assist in establishing practical sales operations, including territory business planning, pre-call planning, manager coaching, weekly and monthly performance reviews, field feedback intake, issue triage, and follow-through on agreed actions.
  • Lead on monitoring field capacity and workload through capacity analysis, vacancy coverage, and field deployment scenarios to support the rapid uptake of products.
  • Assist in communicating incentive compensation plans and helping review lead and lag indicators for sales growth at the regional and territory level. This position will also help identify regional and territory market trends for the sales team to act on.   
  • Lead and coordinate Plan of Action (POA) meetings with stakeholder groups and align strategic content and analysis needed for meetings.  
  • Assist Senior Vice President of Sales, ensure launch planning is executed at regional and territory level and field milestones and metrics are met. Work with internal operations teams to provide feedback on territory related issues that need resolution.
  • Analyze feedback into specific recommendations for Sales leadership, facilitate business reviews, and coordinate corrective actions related to targeting, call-plan adherence, customer engagement, capability gaps, and resource deployment needed at the regional and territory level.
  • Assist Senior Vice President of Sales to build, coach, and retain a high-performing team with clear ownership and accountability for performance and building a strong culture based on Amylyx values. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 15+ years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology commercial operations, sales operations, field effectiveness, field enablement, and sales leadership; an advanced degree may substitute for a portion of the experience.
  • Significant leadership experience supporting U.S. specialty or rare disease field organizations, including experience building functions, leading teams, influencing senior executives and launching products.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in field force design, targeting and segmentation, territory alignment, incentive compensation, performance analytics, business planning, and customer relationship management platforms.
  • Proven ability to execute field enablement strategies, including onboarding, launch readiness, facilitation, reinforcement, capability assessment, and measurement of learning impact at the regional and territory level.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen, with the ability to synthesize complex regional and territory data, identify implications, and communicate clear recommendations to executive and field audiences.
  • Deep understanding of pharmaceutical commercial practices and the legal, regulatory, privacy, and compliance requirements governing interactions with healthcare professionals, patients, and other stakeholders.
  • Exceptional cross-functional leadership, change management, communication, and vendor-management skills, with a record of delivering through ambiguity and competing priorities.
  • Willing to fill potential vacancy gaps with Regional Sales Directors.
  • Ability to travel as business needs require, including field visits, national meetings, training programs, and company events. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in business, life sciences, analytics, organizational development, or related discipline.
  • Experience supporting a commercial launch or major indication expansion in a small, rapidly growing biotechnology company.
  • Experience with modern commercial data, analytics, learning, and customer relationship management platforms and with leading technology-enabled process transformation.
  • Experience in marketing, sales, field analytics and patient services is a plus. 

Work Location and Conditions

  • At Amylyx, we proudly support remote work opportunities within the United States. However, due to business considerations related to health insurance coverage and state tax regulations, we are unable to hire employees who reside and/or work in certain states. Currently, we are not considering applicants from Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Michigan and Tennessee.
  • You will be expected to travel to our corporate location in Cambridge, MA several times a year and attend other company-related events as necessary and requested.
  • You must have access to work in setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at your remote location.

Compensation

The pay range posted below represents our good faith estimate of compensation for this role, based on market data and internal benchmarks. The final offer may vary depending on a candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications, as well as considerations of internal equity.

$225,000—$253,000 USD
