Position Summary
Lead the strategy that shapes athenahealth’s next generation of data products and platform services. In this role, you will identify and evaluate market opportunities, define commercialization strategies, and help turn ecosystem insights into scalable growth plans across research solutions, information release capabilities, value-based care platform services, interoperability offerings, and other data-enabled businesses. You will work closely with Product Management, Engineering, Business Development, Sales, Finance, and executive leadership to align strategy with execution. This role reports to the Vice President of Product Management, Data and Ecosystem Platform.
About the Team
The Data & Ecosystem Platform organization enables the movement, intelligence, and activation of healthcare data across providers, payers, partners, and patients. The team builds and scales the infrastructure and services that support interoperability, ecosystem connectivity, analytics, and emerging data products. The Product Market Strategy team connects market opportunities with execution by bringing together customer insights, industry trends, business strategy, and product innovation. The team partners across the business to help guide decisions using market research, product data, and external ecosystem feedback.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Identify, assess, and prioritize emerging opportunities across data products, platform services, and adjacent healthcare businesses.
Develop growth strategies for offerings such as research solutions, information release services, value-based care platform capabilities, and interoperability products.
Translate customer needs, market signals, and industry trends into strategic recommendations and investment priorities.
Define product positioning, value propositions, packaging strategies, and pricing frameworks for emerging data businesses.
Develop business cases and commercialization strategies that support growth and long-term profitability.
Partner with Product Management, Finance, and other stakeholders to evaluate monetization approaches and business models.
Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships that expand reach and create differentiated value.
Monitor healthcare trends, interoperability developments, competitive dynamics, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies.
Synthesize customer, partner, and market intelligence into actionable recommendations for leadership.
Use AI-enabled research and analysis tools to speed market scanning, organize large amounts of information, and support stronger strategic recommendations for data products and ecosystem opportunities.
Additional Job Responsibilities
Build executive-level narratives that communicate strategy, opportunities, and investment recommendations.
Partner with Sales, Marketing, Product, and Business Development teams to align on strategy and execution.
Represent athenahealth in customer, partner, and industry engagements as needed.
Support evaluation of partnership structures, ecosystem strategy, and growth models.
Contribute to planning and prioritization discussions across cross-functional teams.
Expected Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred.
10+ years of experience in strategy, product strategy, product marketing, business development, consulting, or a related field.
Experience developing commercial strategies for healthcare technology products or services.
Demonstrated success in strategic partnerships and growth initiatives.
Strong analytical and financial skills, including building business cases and evaluating market opportunities.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior leaders and external stakeholders.
Ability to work effectively across highly cross-functional organizations.
Experience with healthcare data products, interoperability platforms, value-based care solutions, or healthcare analytics preferred.
Familiarity with healthcare ecosystem participants such as providers, payers, life sciences organizations, and research entities preferred.
Experience with pricing, packaging, and commercialization strategies for platform or data businesses preferred.
Experience evaluating emerging technologies, including AI-enabled products and services, preferred.
Expected Compensation
$161,000 - $273,000The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates. Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
