Make Your Mark:

At BlackLine, we enable the success of our customers through meaningful digital transformation of the office of the CFO. We are seeking a Director, Product Management to lead the next generation of our Financial Close suite as we build the agentic financial operations platform that will define the future of accounting and finance.
Reporting to the VP, Product Management, Record-to-Report, you will own the product vision and strategy for BlackLine's Financial Close suite, including account reconciliations, transaction matching, and journal entry. You will lead a multi-layered product team and partner across Engineering, Design, Data Science, and Go-to-Market to deliver the fastest, most efficient, and most accurate close in the market, powered by AI agents working under the accountant's governance and extending the suite well beyond its current boundaries.

You'll Get To:

  • Vision and strategy: Own the vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap to deliver the fastest, most efficient, and most accurate close in the market, reimagining how accounting work gets done and freeing the accounting function to become a strategic value provider to the business.
  • Agentic close: Shift reconciliation, matching, and journal work from manual effort to AI agents operating under the accountant's governance, advancing customers toward a continuous close where agents power the majority of close activities.
  • Beyond today's boundaries: Expand the suite beyond its current core by moving upstream of the ledger to control transactional detail at its source, extending into adjacent Record-to-Report workflows, and capturing new industries.
  • Composable platform: Modernize products and configuration experiences into composable capabilities callable across the platform; partner with platform, AI/ML, and data teams on agent orchestration, ERP-agnostic connectivity, and a context graph that strengthens our competitive moat.
  • Industry specialization: Build industry-specific solutions for high-volume, complex sectors such as banking, financial services, and retail, closing matching and substantiation gaps for the world's largest enterprises.
  • Trust and control: Embed transparency, auditability, and governance into every AI capability to meet SOX, audit, and internal control requirements.
  • Go-to-market and outcomes: Partner with Product Marketing, Sales, Pricing, and Customer Success on packaging, pricing, and positioning for agentic offerings; own business cases, OKRs, and success metrics (e.g., adoption, automation rates, close cycle time, ARR) and represent BlackLine externally.
  • Leadership: Lead, coach, and grow a team of product managers; foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, and AI-native product practices such as rapid prototyping and evaluation-driven development (setting measurable quality benchmarks up front to validate AI capabilities before and after release).

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, Business, or a related field; MBA, CPA, or CA a plus.
  • 15+ years of product management experience in enterprise SaaS, including 5-7+ years in a leadership role managing small teams.
  • Proven track record bringing AI/ML products to market, ideally including generative AI or agentic capabilities, from discovery through launch, adoption, and monetization.
  • Strong working knowledge of AI product development, including LLM and agent architectures, evaluation and quality measurement, human-in-the-loop design, data requirements, and responsible AI.
  • Deep domain expertise in financial close and record-to-report, including:
  • Core close and adjacent processes, including reconciliation, matching, journal entries, intercompany, leases (ASC 842, IFRS 16), fixed assets, and revenue recognition (ASC 606, IFRS 15).
  • Accounting principles (GAAP, IFRS), internal controls, SOX compliance, and audit requirements.
  • Highly preferred: working knowledge of accounting and finance practices in banking, financial services, or retail, such as high-volume transaction matching, balance substantiation, and industry regulatory requirements.
  • Experience modernizing legacy products into composable, platform-based architectures, including transitioning customers into new capabilities.
  • Expert strategic thinking and executive communication skills, with demonstrated ownership of business outcomes (revenue, adoption, retention) for a product line or portfolio.

Working Conditions

  • Standard office job, mostly sedentary in nature

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
