Leads platform engineering strategy across Azure infrastructure, legacy Windows Server workloads, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, reliability, identity, security, cost optimization, and engineering tooling. Builds and develops a platform engineering team while overseeing tenant consolidation, modernization, observability, incident response, and developer self-service. Partners with Security and Compliance to support sensitive and regulated data environments.
Aline runs on a connected platform: one resident record flowing through every stage of the lifecycle, built on a shared infrastructure foundation underneath it. That foundation only holds up if the systems running it are reliable, secure, and built to scale. We are looking for a Director of Platform Engineering to own that foundation: the infrastructure, CI/CD, and reliability practices that let every other team at Aline ship and operate with confidence. This is platform engineering as the evolution of DevOps and SRE, not three separate disciplines bolted together, but one team responsible for how we build and run software.
What You'll Do- Own our multi-tenant Azure infrastructure strategy, including the ongoing consolidation of multiple legacy tenants onto a single, well-governed foundation
- Own the operation and gradual modernization of our legacy estate, including VM-based and Windows Server workloads, while managing the path from legacy to modern platforms
- Lead infrastructure-as-code and configuration management practices (Terraform and Ansible) and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), raising the bar on consistency, security, and repeatability across environments
- Own production reliability: monitoring, alerting, incident response, and the practices that reduce how often things break and how fast we recover when they do
- Drive our GitHub Enterprise consolidation and broader engineering tooling strategy, so every team is working from a consistent, well-managed foundation
- Lead identity and access infrastructure strategy, including our ongoing migration to modern identity platforms
- Partner with Security & Compliance leadership to ensure infrastructure practices meet the bar required for a platform handling sensitive resident and clinical data
- Own cloud cost strategy and optimization, balancing performance and reliability against infrastructure spend
- Build and lead a team of platform/infrastructure engineers, including hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers into senior and staff-level contributors
- Evaluate and introduce modern platform engineering practices and tooling (e.g. feature flagging, developer self-service) that reduce friction for every engineering team at Aline
- Proven experience leading a platform engineering, DevOps, or SRE function, ideally having built or scaled the function rather than just operating an existing one
- Deep hands-on background in cloud infrastructure (Azure strongly preferred), infrastructure-as-code and configuration management (Terraform and Ansible), and CI/CD
- Hands-on experience with legacy platforms, especially VM-based workloads and Windows Server environments, and the judgment to bridge the old world and the modern one: keeping legacy systems stable and secure while migrating them to cloud-native approaches
- Strong track record on production reliability: incident response, observability, and reducing operational toil
- Experience consolidating or migrating infrastructure across multiple environments or tenants, ideally in a multi-tenant SaaS context
- Comfortable operating as both a working leader and a people leader: able to go deep technically while also building and developing a team
- Experience partnering closely with Security/Compliance functions, ideally in an environment handling sensitive or regulated data
- Comfortable in a lean, fast-moving mid-market environment where this role owns outcomes end-to-end rather than a narrow slice of a much larger org
- Bonus: experience in a multi-product or multi-tenant SaaS company that has grown through acquisition or consolidation
