Who We Are

Verily Health is a data platform and technology company purpose-built to power AI-enabled precision health solutions that accelerate research and improve care for individuals and communities. Uniquely positioned at the intersection of technology, data science, and healthcare, Verily transforms multimodal health data into insights, models, and actions that make healthcare more personalized, predictive, and precise.

Description

The Director, Physician Researcher for Clinical Studies is a hands-on scientific leader who will drive the Evidence Generation activities — from study design and execution of clinical and scientific studies, registries, and AI evaluations from study design to final publication. You will  shape studies that demonstrate the clinical, operational, and population-level impact of our products and programs, with the direct responsibilities including: writing protocols, building analysis plans, reviewing data line-by-line, and representing Verily’s scientific perspective in discussions with  health systems, academic investigators, payers, and pharmaceutical partners. The ideal candidate combines sound clinical training, methodological fluency in observational and real-world evidence research, and the interpersonal skill to build trust with internal and external partners while advancing Verily's scientific and business priorities.

Responsibilities
  • Design and build studies. Personally author protocols, statistical analysis plans, and data collection instruments for registries, observational studies, and pragmatic/real-world evidence (RWE) studies. Draft endpoint definitions, inclusion/exclusion criteria, data elements, and outcome measures, working shoulder-to-shoulder with biostatistics, epidemiology, and data management teams to translate scientific and business objectives into feasible, ethically sound, methodologically rigorous designs.

  • Get your hands on the data and the AI tools. Directly evaluate AI-enabled tools,  running AI-assisted data collection, extraction, and analysis outputs through your own review for accuracy, bias, and clinical validity, and personally benchmarking AI tool performance against predefined quality and scientific standards before and during deployment.

  • Do the clinical and scientific work. Perform clinical review of incoming data and study results; write and refine CRFs, data dictionaries, and registry specifications alongside Clinical Operations, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Regulatory Affairs; ensure protocols meet scientific, regulatory, and operational standards; and embed with Product & Commercial teams as the working clinical SME as we build research tools for our clients.

  • Lead partnerships and publish. Identify, cultivate, and personally run strategic research partnerships. Serve as the primary clinical point of contact for external customers, investigators, sites, and partner organizations. Write and contribute directly to publications, abstracts, and presentations from study data, and mentor junior staff by working through partner-facing research design with them, not just reviewing it.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • M.D. or D.O. (or international equivalent) with active or eligible medical licensure, plus 10+ years of pharmaceutical, biotech, or CRO industry experience in clinical development, digital health, or real-world evidence. Secondary degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, clinical research, or public health.

  • Hands-on experience evaluating or directly testing AI/ML-enabled tools in a clinical research, registry, or real-world data context.

  • Demonstrated experience personally designing and leading observational studies, registries, or pragmatic clinical trials, including authoring protocols and analysis plans, with a strong knowledge and application of epidemiological methods, biostatistics, and real-world data sources (claims, EHR, patient-reported outcomes).

  • Working knowledge of GCP and regulatory requirements for observational research, data privacy considerations (HIPAA, GDPR as applicable), IRB protocol development, and excellent written/verbal communication skills across scientific and non-scientific audiences.

  • Comfort operating as an individual contributor and leader simultaneously — this role writes, reviews, and builds, not just delegates.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct, hands-on experience with registry platforms and electronic data capture (EDC) systems.

  • First-author or lead-author peer-reviewed publications involving observational or registry data.

  • Experience working directly with payers, health systems, or value-based care arrangements.

  • Familiarity with FDA real-world evidence guidance and ISPOR/ISPE good practice standards.
