Job Summary:

The Director of Operations Analytics will be a strategic business partner and thought leader proactively empowering the business to make data-driven decisions across the operations landscape that unlocks customer value and enables growth. This highly visible business facing position will require an individual with the ability to build strong relationships with senior business leadership as well as other internal clients to understand business/corporate objectives and ensure all deliverables are aligned. They will be responsible for leading various ad-hoc analysis in support of emerging business questions/opportunities, maximizing sales & profit across existing business programs as well as driving reporting and insights to optimize day-to-day operations across Clubs and Logistics Operations.  

This role requires an excellent collaborator, communicator, and leader with a strong bias towards data-based decision making. The successful candidate is a problem solver in a fast-moving and highly diverse environment with a strong background in analytics within a retail landscape. They will be able to lead multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring accuracy and timeliness are not compromised with a proven track record of delivering positive results. In addition to strong analytical skills, they must possess a high degree of business/financial acumen and be able to develop solutions that drive business value. They must be comfortable managing in a cross functional environment and be adept at communicating results to senior leadership in both written and verbal formats.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities:

  • Manage and develop a team of action oriented and results-focused analytics professionals.
  • Act as a strategic business advisor to the Operations leadership team in support of day-to-day business operations and management as well as long term strategic planning.
  • Define and manage optimization of existing business programs & processes through analytics and testing with a continuous focus on customer experience and maximizing sales & profit.
  • Lead the development of advanced analytical solutions to provide action-oriented insights with qualitative and/or quantitative impact to various business functions, then work to ensure utilization and adoption by these functions.
  • Mine data using various tools ensuring data validation and integrity and build easily consumable and insightful reporting and data visualizations for end user stakeholders.
  • Analyze vast amounts of financial, web, customer and product level data and make recommendations about improvements and opportunities for increasing sales and profit.
  • Take the lead on Business problems to include identifying questions, forming hypotheses, and determining the best analytical approach; getting beyond the facts and delivering insights that inform business decisions and drive improved performance.
  • Present results and recommendations to internal customers’ and stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Stay up to date on analytics industry trends to inform ongoing changes and enhancements.
  • Consult and act as the subject matter expert on data development and utilization across the organization in partnership with IT and business partners.

Qualifications:

  • B.S./B.A. degree in Business, Marketing or Statistics. M.S. or MBA degree preferred.
  • 10 – 15 years of progressive leadership experience over an Analytics function in a retail operations environment, marketing professional services company, or leading consulting firm.
  • Prior experience building, coaching, and developing a team of analytics professionals.
  • Deep understanding of financial mechanics of sales and margin across product categories and customers.
  • Expert in various data mining techniques. Hands on experience with complex SQL queries and or other data mining and statistical software knowledge preferred.
  • High level of business acumen, including financial, planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to build relationships with partners, proactively assess the needs of the business, inform strategic roadmaps and influence decisions at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills as well as demonstrated experience in fact-based analysis, including the ability to persuasively present complex insights and recommendations to senior management and non-technical colleagues.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and critical thinking skills with a strong bias towards data-based decision making and the ability to break down complex problems and formulate plans.
  • Pro-active and self-motivated work style with proven ability to collaborate broadly with flexible, positive attitude to get results within a cross-functional team.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities with demonstrated track record of strong execution and experience partnering with technical teams to deliver results.
  • Passion and energy for innovation and out of the box solutions.

In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position. At BJ’s Wholesale Club, we carefully consider a wide range of non-discriminatory factors when determining salary. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, education, experience, and qualifications. The pay range for this position is starting from $158,000.00.
