About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, highly strategic Director of New Product Planning to help shape the future of our clinical-stage pipeline. This role serves as the commercial voice on program teams, partnering cross-functionally to generate, align, and communicate commercial strategies for early and late-stage assets. You will act as the subject matter expert for assigned programs, advising senior leadership, guiding development and market entry strategies, and leading competitive intelligence efforts across targeted disease areas.
This is a highly visible, cross-functional role ideal for a strategic thinker who can translate science, clinical potential, and market dynamics into clear commercial recommendations that drive portfolio value.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial & Program Strategy Leadership (50%)
- Partner with R&D, clinical, medical, and commercial functions to build development, market entry, and integrated strategies for pre-clinical and clinical assets.
- Provide high-quality commercial evaluation and strategic input for Phase 2+ assets and lifecycle management.
- Refine indication strategy and contribute to clinical development planning for early-stage programs.
- Develop commercial landscape assessments, indication prioritization, and strategic recommendations for Phase 1 assets.
- Shape near-, mid-, and long-term commercialization plans to maximize asset value.
- Collaborate with Investor Relations and Corporate Communications to ensure accurate, compelling external messaging.
- Synthesize and communicate insights and strategy to program teams, portfolio committees, and senior leadership.
Competitive Intelligence Leadership (25%)
- Lead continuous collection, synthesis, and communication of competitive intelligence for each program.
- Monitor and communicate critical market events, ensuring timely strategic alignment within program teams.
- Coordinate primary and secondary intelligence gathering at medical congresses, earnings calls, and industry meetings.
- Develop pre- and post-conference summaries and insight presentations.
Portfolio & Global Development Strategy (25%)
- Contribute to global development planning and influence portfolio strategy decisions.
- Support ongoing asset prioritization, annual strategic planning, and long-range portfolio assessments.
- Participate in evaluations of in-licensing, out-licensing, and partnership opportunities.
- Present recommendations to senior leadership and cross-functional governance bodies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, life sciences, or related discipline.
- 12+ years of biopharmaceutical industry experience, including 3–5 years in new product planning, strategic planning, product launch leadership, or related functions.
- Strong scientific literacy and ability to translate clinical data into commercial insights.
- Extensive experience with global drug development, commercial launches, and lifecycle strategy.
- Significant experience with market research and competitive intelligence methodologies.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, collaboration, communication, and executive-level presentation skills.
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, and meticulous attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (MBA, MPH, PharmD, PhD).
- Experience in hematology/oncology development and commercialization.
- Experience with emerging market commercialization (e.g., South America, Eastern/Central Europe).
- Background in scaling an organization from regional commercial focus to multi-franchise global footprint.
- Experience working with Japanese business culture and norms.
Deciphera is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base salary pay range for this role is $198,300 - $272,670. Actual compensation packages will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to depth of experience, education, skillset, overall performance and/or location.
