The Impact of a Director, Internal Communications at Coupa:
Coupa is at an exciting inflection point — scaling rapidly across technology, AI, and global enterprise markets. To support this growth, we are seeking a Director of Internal Communications who will play a critical role in fostering a connected, informed, and motivated global workforce.
Reporting to the VP of Global Communications, this leader will help transform how we communicate inside Coupa and engage our global employee community — ensuring everyone understands where the company is going, how their work contributes to that vision, and feels energized to help drive it forward.

What You'll Do:
- Planning & Alignment: Partner closely with the VP of Global Communications and Human Resources to transform Coupa’s internal communications and employee engagement strategy—ensuring employees are connected to the company’s mission, values, and business objectives. Translate executive priorities and complex business shifts into clear, inspiring, and actionable messaging for employees across all levels and regions.
- Change Management & Organizational Initiatives: Lead communications in support of key change management programs, strategic business updates, and cultural initiatives. Provide frameworks, counsel, and messaging that help employees navigate change with clarity and confidence.
- Content & Channel Leadership: Oversee and continuously refine all internal communication channels, including company-wide announcements, newsletters, intranet content, and digital platforms (e.g., Slack, internal video, or social). Ensure consistent tone, cadence, and visual identity across all employee touchpoints.
- Leadership Partnering & Advisory: Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, helping shape the company’s internal voice while also managing a team that supports a number of key functional and CLT leaders as business partners. Develop talking points, FAQs, presentation materials, and scripts for executive communications such as town halls, all-hands meetings, and leadership updates.
- Measurement & Employee Insights: Establish clear metrics to evaluate internal communications effectiveness—using engagement data, sentiment analysis, and feedback loops to measure resonance and improve performance.
- Culture & Engagement Programs: Partner with HR and other cross-functional leaders to design and execute initiatives that strengthen company culture, reinforce values, and celebrate achievements across teams and regions.
- Team Leadership and Collaboration: Lead and develop a team of internal communications professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, high performance, and continuous improvement. Work closely with peers across the global communications organization—including corporate, product, and partner comms—to ensure message alignment and cohesion between internal and external storytelling.
What You Will Bring to Coupa:
- 8–12+ years of experience in internal communications, employee engagement, or related disciplines, preferably within a high-growth technology, SaaS, or AI-focused company. Past experience at a PR agency is a plus
- Demonstrated success developing and executing internal communications strategies that support organizational transformation and employee engagement
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills—able to translate complex or technical information into clear, accessible messages
- Experience partnering with senior executives and cross-functional teams, particularly HR and People Operations
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on execution
- Analytical mindset: experience measuring communication impact through data and feedback
- Proactive, collaborative, and resourceful—someone who “sees around corners” and drives initiatives forward with enthusiasm.
- Bonus: experience supporting globally distributed or hybrid teams, or working within companies integrating AI or emerging technologies
