Cooley is seeking a Director of Integrated Content Marketing to join the Marketing and Business Development team.

Position summary: The Director of Integrated Content Marketing will be responsible for defining and driving the firm’s cohesive content strategy—from ideation through production and multi-channel distribution—to credentialize the firm and respond to current client and market needs globally. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Position responsibilities:

Content Strategy and Production:

  • Establish Content Vision: Define the editorial vision, voice, and standards for all firm content, ensuring it is consistently high-quality, relevant to client needs, and positions the firm as a market leader.
  • Develop Global and Local Content Strategies: Collaborate with firm leadership, practice group leaders, and marketing/business development teams to create a comprehensive and cohesive content strategy covering varied modern and differentiated formats focused on both brand and demand goals
  • Build Production Infrastructure: Design and implement the optimal operating model (combining internal team members and external/agency resources) necessary to efficiently produce all content types from ideation to final publication
  • Oversee Content Workflow: Establish and manage rigorous content production processes, including copy editing, legal/technical review, quality control, and stakeholder approval, ensuring compliance and accuracy across all materials leveraging Digital Asset Management (DAM) and AI technologies
  • Manage Resources: In coordination with HR, determine internal staffing needs, upskill, hire and mentor team members. Manage external vendors (agencies, freelance writers, etc.) to ensure cost-effective and high-quality content output. Coordinate with HR on non-employee service provider needs, including independent contractor requests

Content Distribution & Performance:

  • Lead Distribution Strategy: Partner closely with Marketing, Business Development and Communications teams to develop and execute integrated paid, earned, and owned distribution strategies for all content
  • Audience Targeting and Personalization: Partner with Marketing and Business Development teams to Implement strategies to effectively target key client audiences and personalize content delivery to maximize engagement and impact
  • Budget Management: Manage the content budget effectively, ensuring resources are allocated strategically to high-impact content initiatives and distribution channels
  • Performance Measurement: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and robust tracking mechanisms to measure the effectiveness of all content and distribution efforts, providing regular performance reports
  • Data-Driven Iteration: Use content performance data and market feedback to continually refine the content strategy, production processes, and distribution tactics

Collaboration and Market Alignment:

  • Stakeholder Partnership: Serve as the primary content expert and partner to practice group leaders and marketing/business development colleagues, translating complex legal topics and business goals into compelling, client-focused content
  • Market Responsiveness: Continuously monitor the legal and business landscape, identifying emerging trends and regulatory changes to ensure content is timely, responsive, and drives client discussions
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Act as the central liaison between the content function and all other business professional teams to ensure strategic alignment and efficient project execution

Other:

  • Provide day-to-day supervision of direct reports, ensure compliance with assigned work hours and monitor for compliance with all firm and department policies. Manage staffing coverage, review and process time logs/time off requests
  • Support business professional deveopment and continued educational opportunities.
  • In collaboration with HR, participate in hiring, performance appraisals, counseling, termination and other employee lifecycle events
  • All other duties as assigned or required

Skills and experience:

Required:

  • After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, and ability to travel, as required
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years directly applicable content marketing experience at a management level, with proven ability to manage, coach and motivate with proven experience leading a comprehensive content function, preferably in a large global professional services firm, agency, or publisher environment
  • Expertise in content production best practices, editorial oversight, and workflow management for multiple formats (e.g., articles, reports, video, web, social)
  • Demonstrated success developing and executing multi-channel (paid, earned, owned) distribution strategies within tight budgetary and resource constraints
  • Strong understanding of content performance metrics, analytics, and using data to inform future strategy
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence and partner effectively with senior firm leadership and highly skilled professionals.
  • Proficient in the use of CRM technologies
  • MBA or advanced degree in a related field and significant prior experience in marketing or sales
  • Experience in a professional services environment
  • Experience managing a large team of direct reports

Cooley offers a competitive compensation and excellent benefits package and is committed to fair and equitable employment practices. EOE.

The expected annual pay range for this position with a full-time schedule is $280,000 - $300,000. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
