Position Summary

The Director of Human Resources serves as the strategic leader of ACCC’s Human Resource function and a trusted advisor to the Chief Operating Officer and Executive Leadership Team. This role is responsible for developing and executing people strategies that support ACCC’s mission, organizational growth, operational excellence, and employee experience.


The Director leads all aspects of Human Resources, including talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation and benefits, compliance, organizational development, leadership coaching, workforce planning, and HR operations. This position balances strategic leadership with operational execution while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and service.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with the COO and Executive Leadership Team on organizational strategy and workforce planning.
  • Develop and execute the annual Human Resources operating plan aligned with ACCC’s strategic priorities.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leaders on employee relations, organizational effectiveness, leadership development, and change management.  
  • Lead initiatives that strengthen culture, employee engagement, and organizational performance.

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

  • Lead enterprise recruiting strategy and workforce planning efforts.
  • Partner with leaders to attract, develop, and retain top talent.
  • Improve recruiting processes, candidate experience, and time-to-fill metrics.
  • Oversee onboarding, succession planning, and talent development initiatives.
  • Continuously improve the candidate and hiring manager experience.

Employee Relations & Performance Management

  • Provide guidance on employee relations, investigations, coaching, and performance management.
  • Lead complex employee relations matters while ensuring consistency, fairness, and compliance.
  • Assist in manager development through coaching and leadership support.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, recognition, and continuous feedback.

Compensation, Benefits & HR Operations

  • Oversee compensation administration and benefits strategy.
  • Manage HR vendor relationships and HR platforms.
  • Partner with Finance to ensure effective payroll coordination.
  • Continuously improve HR processes, policies, and service delivery.

Compliance & Organizational Effectiveness

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Maintain HR policies, employee handbook, and compliance programs.
  • Partner with legal counsel when appropriate.
  • Identify opportunities to improve organizational effectiveness and mitigate HR-related risk.

Metrics & Reporting

  • Develop and maintain Human Resources dashboards and KPIs.
  • Monitor workforce trends, recruiting effectiveness, retention, and employee engagement.
  • Use data and analytics to support executive decision-making and continuous improvement.

Leadership Expectations

The Director of Human Resources is expected to:

Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.  
  • 8+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, including leadership responsibility.  
  • Strong knowledge of multi-state employment law and HR best practices.
  • Experience advising senior leaders on employee relations, organizational development and talent strategy.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.

Preferred:

  • SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification
  • Experience supporting nonprofit or financial services organizations.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now or comparable HRIS.
  • Experience leading organizational change and process improvement.
  • Familiarity with EOS or similar business operating systems.

Essential Functions

    • This position requires on-site presence at the Newton, MA headquarters four days per week, with the option to work remotely one day per week.
