About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Fund Management is responsible for the management and oversight of the operational area of fund management within Advancement Resources. The Director will serve as the primary liaison for fund management which includes new fund creation, revision of new fund terms, closure of existing funds, monthly reconciliation of all donor supported funds, and financial fund reporting needs for the unit. They will lead the development and execution of an aligned strategic plan for the careful oversight of donor and restricted fund data, effective management of more than 1,000 donor funds, and efficient operations and technology utilization for monthly fund reconciliation.

The Director will manage a Senior Associate Director, Stewardship and an Associate Director of Donor Relations. The Director will work collaboratively with the Senior Director, Donor Relations as the overlapping work of the Associate Director of Donor Relations for scholarship reporting requires a collaborative teamwork approach across units.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Proficiency in designing financial reports and developing financial models using Excel or Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) tools. Experience working with Fund Management systems, including SharePoint, Banner, Workday, FundMiner, and Snowflake. Knowledge of gift/grant administration and non-profit finance. Working familiarity with scholarship management technologies preferably Scholarship Manager. Demonstrated effectiveness in a fast-paced, growth-oriented global or regional organization, requiring flexibility and adaptability to changing organizational priorities. Ability to enforce policies/processes while remaining flexible to the growing organization’s needs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously. Knowledge and skills required for this position are normally obtained through a Bachelor’s degree at at least 7 years progressively responsible experience in advancement/development office, some of which should be in a supervisory role and/or preferably in higher education.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

1) Fund Management:

  • Partner with Finance/Treasury department to ensure accurate reconciliation and strong interdepartmental relationship. Manage the compliance and ethical standards of the Advancement Resources department
  • Establish internal process of review and execution of all gift agreements, including development of master gift agreement, to ensure internal accountability as outlined in finalized gift agreement terms
  • Ensure accurate fund balances for all donor-established funds are managed in accordance with gift agreement documentation. Monitor funds for adherence to donor directives.
  • Working collaboratively with Financial Services and other strategic partners in the college to ensure accurate disbursement of student support funds.
  • Establish and oversee monthly reconciliation of all donor-established funds
  • Adjust approaches to increasingly complex gift arrangements, the creation of new projects/initiative and any rises in charitable gift volumes
  • Manages the allocation of restricted donor funds in close partnership with Financial Services office and relevant colleges ensuring annual donor funding is utilized and awarded in accordance with agreed-upon terms
  • Provides ongoing guidance and proactive updates to Donor Relations, fundraising and campus-wide colleagues regarding progress toward restricted fund activation, fund usage and the interpretation for existing gifts
  • Develops annual calendar(s) to guide work of Fund Management team in partnership with Advancement, aligning team activities with Donor Relations stewardship reporting goals
  • Serve as liaison for internal relationships for partnership in the development, execution and management of funds

2) Scholarship Administration:

  • Oversees the administration, budget management and account reconciliation of donor funded scholarships. Generates reports and tracks fund utilization of scholarship dollars
  • Management of donor-funded scholarships held by Northeastern through award/scholarship terms and needed fund reporting.  
  • Plan and implement scholarship administration process/record keeping for designated scholarship/award management tool.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of administrative procedures relative to scholarship program management
  • Conceptualizes and implements team workflow strategies, factoring in planned and reactive work
  • Manage tracking and statistical analysis of scholarship/awards as requested

3) Donor Compliance:

  • Review all fund terms written for new and revised funds
  • Oversee the population and dissemination of donor supported funds
  • Collaborate with gift officers to communicate with donors when donor compliance issues are discovered and oversee the resolution of issues that created non-compliance
  • Work in collaboration with Financial Services on the plan and implementation of systems (i.e., Scholarship Manager, Award Management etc.) that will be directly related to the proper allocation of donor-funded scholarships

4) Department Leadership:

  • Develop long and short-term goals for the unit to establish improved services to the donors and division.
  • Manage fund management team
  • Identify strategies for improvement in processes, systems and procedures.
  • Mentor staff.

5) Special Projects as assigned:

  • Special projects assigned can/will vary based on needs and strategies of University Advancement goals and directives.

Expected Hiring Range:

$112,180.00 - $162,662.50

With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
