Many of the companies Flagship has founded have addressed humanity’s most urgent challenges: vaccinating billions of people against COVID-19, curing intractable diseases, improving human health, preempting illness, and feeding the world by improving the resiliency and sustainability of agriculture.

Flagship has been recognized twice on FORTUNE’s “Change the World” list, an annual ranking of companies that have made a positive social and environmental impact through activities that are part of their core business strategies, and has been twice named to Fast Company’s annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies. Position Summary:

Flagship Pioneering is looking for a Director to join our dynamic FP&A Team, with a primary focus on supporting our emerging technology and AI-centric portfolio companies. In this role, you will work directly with our scientific origination teams (Pioneering Business Units – PBUs) to establish and scale companies up from inception, particularly ProtoCos (earliest stage) and NewCos (typically Series A stage). You will help shape the financial strategy of ventures leveraging software, data, and AI while also providing financial leadership across a broader set of portfolio companies, including in the life sciences space.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams (Sales, Product, Data) to drive commercial insights and improve reporting for our AI-centric companies. You will contribute to short and long-term financial projections for portfolio companies, including in the critical fund-raising stages.

The position provides an opportunity for professional growth and well-rounded finance operations exposure as Flagship continues to evolve.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Forecast and analyze company commercial performance where applicable, and identify growth drivers in revenue and profitability
  • Collaborate with PBU Finance teams to monitor companies’ cash runway vs. scientific and commercial progress, develop financial forecasts, analyze actual results, evaluate scenarios and assess fund-raising options
  • Design and improve financial and operational dashboards for the ProtoCos and NewCos, and for the origination teams: cash position, cash burn, future investment and headcount
  • Partner with PBU team, company CEOs, CFOs and senior leaders as a strategic business advisor
  • Support management with ad-hoc reporting and analysis

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in an FP&A/Finance role, preferably in a high-growth tech environment
  • Deep understanding of SaaS business models, metrics, and subscription economics (e.g., ARR, churn, CAC, LTV)
  • Data-driven with great attention to accuracy and to details
  • Experience building relationships with all stakeholders and working with senior leaders
  • Passion for technology, AI, and driving business growth in dynamic environments
  • Direct experience with data manipulation and visualization tools is a plus (e.g., Power BI)
  • Master’s degree in accounting or finance. MBA or CPA is a plus

Flagship Pioneering and our ecosystem companies are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity or Veteran status.

At Flagship, we recognize there is no perfect candidate. If you have some of the experience listed above but not all, please apply anyway. Experience comes in many forms, skills are transferable, and passion goes a long way. We are dedicated to building diverse and inclusive teams and look forward to learning more about your unique background.

The submission of unsolicited resumes by recruitment or staffing agencies to FSP or its employees is strictly prohibited unless contacted directly by Flagship Pioneering’s internal Talent Acquisition team.
