CORPORATE FINANCE INSTITUTE

Director, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)

Direct Reports: 1

PURPOSE

The Director of FP&A is a finance leader who drives data-informed decision-making across CFI. Reporting to the VP Finance & Accounting, this role partners across the business. The ideal candidate combines deep financial modeling expertise with a passion for developing people, a command of SaaS and marketing analytics, and hands-on experience with financial planning systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Planning, Modeling & Forecasting

  • Prepare the annual budget, periodic re-forecasts, and rolling 13-week cash flow forecast across all business units
  • Build and maintain dynamic three-statement models supporting scenario analysis
  • Lead monthly close analysis with variance reporting, clear driver narratives, and recommended corrective actions
  • Assist with preparation of board presentations, investor materials, and executive dashboards

SaaS Metrics & Business Analytics

  • Own CFI’s SaaS KPI framework: ARR, GRR, NRR, CAC, LTV, LTV:CAC, payback period, magic number and rule of 40
  • Build cohort analysis models to track retention curves, expansion revenue, and unit economics across segments
  • Partner with Data/BI teams to create self-serve dashboards that democratize access to key metrics

Marketing & Go-to-Market Analytics

  • Serve as finance partner to Marketing and Go-to-Market, building ROI models for paid acquisition, content, SEO, and lifecycle campaigns
  • Analyze full-funnel performance (traffic → leads → trials → conversions → revenue) with channel attribution
  • Track and forecast CAC by channel and cohort; provide actionable recommendations on spend allocation and efficiency

Systems, Tools & Process Excellence

  • Lead evaluation and implementation of FP&A planning tools
  • Drive integration between ERP, CRM, billing systems, and FP&A platforms to create a single source of financial truth
  • Champion automation of recurring reporting and data consolidation to free the team for strategic work

People Leadership & Team Development

  • Create individualized career development plans with clear milestones, stretch assignments, and regular coaching
  • Foster a culture of intellectual curiosity and business partnership—strategic advisors, not report generators
  • Communicate SLT decisions and initiatives top-down to help the team better align personal and team goals with company directions

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Act as a proactive business partner to department heads, bringing financial perspective to operational decisions
  • Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable narratives for non-finance audiences
  • Support ad-hoc analysis as requested by the VP Finance & Accounting and SLT

SUCCESS METRICS

Forecast Accuracy: Revenue variance within ±5%; expense variance within ±10%

SaaS KPI Rigor: Timely, accurate reporting of core SaaS metrics with trend analysis

Systems: FP&A planning tool implemented within first 12 months

Team Development: Direct reports growing in scope; strong engagement scores

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s in Finance, Accounting, or Economics; MBA, CPA, CFA, strongly preferred
  • 8–12+ years of progressive FP&A or strategic finance experience, with 3+ years leading and developing a team
  • Deep SaaS or subscription-business experience with proven command of recurring revenue metrics and unit economics
  • Hands-on experience implementing FP&A systems (Aleph, Abacum, Drivetrain, or similar)
  • Advanced financial modeling skills: three-statement models, DCF, scenario analysis, cohort modeling
  • Strong knowledge in Excel and Gsuite tools
  • Proficiency with ERP, CRM (Salesforce/HubSpot), and BI tools (Tableau, Looker)
  • Experience with marketing analytics including CAC/LTV analysis, funnel metrics, and channel ROI

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience at a high-growth, PE-backed SaaS company ($20M–$200M ARR)
  • Familiarity with PLG metrics, freemium conversion modeling
  • EdTech or digital content subscription experience

WHAT SETS THE IDEAL CANDIDATE APART

People-First Leader: You’ve coached analysts into managers. You invest real time in career development and create psychological safety for smart risk-taking.

Systems Thinker: You’ve led an FP&A systems implementation and understand the difference between a tool and a solution.

SaaS-Native Operator: You speak fluently in ARR, NRR, and churn cohorts—and use them to challenge assumptions and find growth levers.

Marketing-Savvy Partner: You’re energized by helping growth teams quantify what’s working and make confident investment decisions.

Compensation

  • USD $170,000 – $200,000 (United States)
