Help make the world more hospitable

The hospitality industry is uniquely human, and it deserves technology that’s just as inspiring as the people behind it. At Mews, we’re transforming the industry with a platform that helps hotels run smarter, move faster and create better guest experiences.

You’ll work with smart, curious people who care deeply about what they do. You’ll have autonomy and the trust to make good decisions and move quickly. And you’ll enjoy a real sense of purpose as you see the impact of what we’re building.

If you’re motivated by ownership, curiosity and meaningful impact, and are driven to deliver consistent high performance, you’ll feel at home here.

About the role

Let's get into the specifics. It’s impossible to capture every nuance of a role – especially at a rapidly growing company like Mews – but if we had to distil it into a job description (which we do because this is a job description), it would be this:

Director of Product & Engineering – Operations

Mews is working toward a future where hotels recognise guests at scale, deliver personalised experiences across the entire journey, and give staff the tools to act with confidence in real time. This role owns the engineering organisation that builds it.

You'll direct a significant part of our Front of House engineering — a cross-product area that includes guest recognition, personalised experiences, automation, role-aware workflows, and joined-up guest journeys. You'll work across Product, Design, Data, and other engineering directors to turn a clear long-term strategy into execution, at a moment when the Front of House department has made quality, delivery rigour, and proactive operational health a deliberate priority.

The problem this role exists to solve is real and complex: how do you scale a guest experience platform to recognise and personalise across millions of interactions, while keeping delivery fast, systems healthy, and teams sharp? That requires someone who can set engineering direction, coach engineering managers, and hold a high bar — without needing to be the person writing all the code.

Mews serves thousands of properties globally, and the data and distribution advantages that come with that scale are genuinely uncommon. This is a chance to shape the engineering organisation that makes that advantage meaningful.

What you would do

  • Grow and develop engineering teams through managers and senior engineers, building clarity, accountability, and a high-performance culture.
  • Set engineering direction that balances speed, quality, and long-term scalability across a complex, cross-product area.
  • Work across Product, Design, Data, and other engineering directors to turn strategy into execution.
  • Raise the bar on engineering excellence, operational health, and delivery rigour — areas Front of House has made a clear priority.
  • Drive effective cross-tribe and cross-division work where ecosystem value flows across Front of House, Back of House, Platform, and Fintech.
  • Coach engineering managers to make sound judgements, reduce unnecessary complexity, and build teams that can move fast without collapsing under scale or operational pressure.
  • Translate strategy into measurable outcomes, with clearer metrics, stronger prioritisation, and tighter links between engineering delivery and business impact.

What you would bring

  • Significant experience directing engineering organisations in a modern B2B SaaS, platform, or product company.
  • A track record of building through scale, ambiguity, and change — developing healthy organisations through managers and senior engineers.
  • Strong technical judgment: the ability to guide architecture, quality, and execution at the right level of involvement.
  • The ability to work closely with Product and Design in a model where business context, user value, and engineering execution are tightly integrated.
  • A bias for clarity, pragmatism, and high standards — with the confidence to make hard trade-offs and keep teams focused on the outcomes that matter most.
  • You've changed how a whole engineering organisation works through AI — not just your own workflow — and you've helped establish the standards for how your teams use it effectively and with sound judgment.

Nice to have

  • Experience in a hospitality, travel, or guest-facing product domain.
  • Familiarity with CRM-adjacent systems, guest data platforms, or personalisation at scale.

Life at Mews

We’re an equal opportunities employer. We value teams that reflect the diversity of the customers and communities we serve. Different perspectives make better ideas, stronger products and a more welcoming company.

We also believe transparency is important when deciding if you're the right fit. Mews is an ambitious, high-pressure environment of continuous learning and high standards. Success here requires resilience, adaptability and a willingness to solve difficult problems.

A few things that define how we work:

  • High autonomy means high responsibility. People are expected to take ownership and drive outcomes. There isn’t a detailed playbook for everything, and that’s part of what makes the work challenging – and rewarding.
  • Change is constant. We’re growing quickly and adapting as we scale. Teams, processes and priorities continue to evolve, and only people who stay curious and agile will thrive.
  • We’re remote-first, not relationship-free. Flexibility is core to how we work, but strong relationships still matter. Our teams are global, so we need expert collaborators and communicators to help us move forward together.
  • AI is an integral part of our processes. It’s not here to steal people’s jobs, but to amplify efficiency and productivity. We’re motivated to proactively use the technology to seek out better ways of working and share our findings with the rest of the company.

If there's anything we can do to support you during the application process, let us know.

We don't discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, disability or any other protected characteristic.

One final thing: don't hold back. If you don't meet 100% of the criteria in this job description but you're certain you could make a big impact, apply. Everyone should have equal access to opportunities, and we're committed to providing an inclusive experience.

If Mews sounds like the kind of environment where you'd thrive, we'd love to hear from you.

Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
