Join one of the most exciting companies in health: Virta Health is on a mission to reverse type 2 diabetes and obesity in 1 billion people.

We’re pioneering a nutrition-first, tech-enabled approach to chronic disease reversal. At a time when metabolic health is going mainstream from the rise of GLP-1s, the diabetes and obesity crises, and bipartisan initiatives on nutrition and longevity, Virta is leading with a clinically proven, cost-saving approach that’s been changing lives for a decade.

We’re backed by $350M+ from top-tier investors, and cover over 12 million lives through leading health plans, employers, and government partnerships. Virta has earned top honors on the CNBC Disruptor List, Time’s Most Influential Companies, and Inc.’s Best Place to Work, and we’re just getting started.

Following a record-setting year, we’re focused on scaling with intention and building the foundation for long-term, large-scale impact. We’re now seeking a Director of Corporate Communications to own and build a bold, modern media engine. This is a career-making opportunity for a natural storyteller ready to shape our public narrative, amplify our growth, and drive our message across an increasingly fragmented and fast-evolving media landscape.

This is an opportunity to:

  • Build and own Virta’s business communications function, from strategy to execution.

  • Define the voice of a pre-IPO, mission-driven company at the forefront of one of the fastest-growing sectors in healthcare.

  • Shape perception across a full spectrum of media: traditional, digital, social, and everything in between.

  • Collaborate with a world-class executive team, including our co-founder and CEO Sami Inkinen, who is both a seasoned entrepreneur building his second billion dollar company and an elite athlete who rowed a boat from California to Hawaii and set a new record in the process. If you’ve wanted to work with an executive who moves fast and thinks big, this is your opportunity.

Your Role:
  • Build and lead Virta’s external media engine. Proactively pitch and secure top-tier coverage across business, consumer, tech, and health outlets, traditional and digital alike.

  • Own the business narrative. Showcase Virta’s growth, momentum, and unique position in a red-hot market shaped by GLP-1s, rising costs, and bipartisan agreement to tackle chronic disease by fixing the food system.

  • Design and drive an always-on comms strategy. Tell stories aligned to Virta’s growth, IPO readiness, and long term market opportunity. Use milestones, trends, and executive visibility to keep Virta front and center.

    • Blend earned, owned, and paid media to amplify stories, including sponsored content, influencer partnerships, and digital ads.

  • Launch and scale a data storytelling engine. Partner across teams to turn outcomes, trends, and clinical results into media gold.

  • Build executive platforms. Secure speaking engagements, media profiles, op-eds, podcasts, and more. Position Virta’s leaders (especially Sami), as bold voices in business, metabolic health and nutrition, and mission-driven entrepreneurship.

  • Create best-in-class content. From press releases and white papers to op-eds and animated videos, clearly communicate Virta’s impact and point of view.

90 Day Plan

Your first 90 days won’t be about observation, they’ll be about action. You’ll hit the ground running, making an immediate impact as you build the foundation for Virta’s next chapter.

  • Jump in, head first. Start pitching. Test ideas. Collaborate with our external partners. Make noise in the market early and often while laying the groundwork for bigger, repeatable wins.

  • Identify the levers. Get under the hood of our business performance and strategic priorities. Translate product launches, cost-savings data, and market traction into smart, channel-specific story angles.

  • Create and own PR OKRs. Track, measure, and analyze impact of media coverage, reach, engagement, and impact, continually refining strategy.

  • Audit and sharpen our media landscape. Dive into our current business media playbook. Form a strong POV on the most strategic voices to engage, from influential reporters and editors to podcasters, newsletter authors, and digital-first commentators, and start building those relationships.

  • Plug in fast. Build strong, high-trust relationships across Virta, from growth and enterprise marketing to clinical ops, design, and the executive team. You’ll get your arms around who we are, how we work, and where our best stories live.

  • Surface internal gold. Map key internal teams and uncover our best emerging spokespeople, case studies, data sets, and visuals; assets you’ll start using right away to tell a richer, bolder story.

  • Get steeped in the science and outcomes. Become fluent in Virta’s clinical model, patient success stories, and the data that proves our model works. This will be your fuel for story mining and narrative development.

Must-Haves
  • A self-starter and builder. You don’t wait for permission. You jump in, get dirty, and make things happen.

  • Obsessed with storytelling and media influence. You know how to shape perception and can turn complex data into compelling stories.

  • Relentlessly curious. You’re hungry to understand how everything works: the new media environment, our product, payer economics.

  • Comfortable with chaos. Virta is growing fast, and so are you. You see ambiguity as a canvas, and are genuinely excited about diving in.

  • Confident and collaborative. You speak up, push ideas forward, and collaborate with humility and urgency.

Values-driven culture

Virta’s company values drive our culture, so you’ll do well if:

  • You put people first and take care of yourself, your peers, and our patients equally

  • You have a strong sense of ownership and take initiative while empowering others to do the same

  • You prioritize positive impact over busy work

  • You have no ego and understand that everyone has something to bring to the table regardless of experience

  • You appreciate transparency and promote trust and empowerment through open access of information

  • You are evidence-based and prioritize data and science over seniority or dogma

  • You take risks and rapidly iterate
