The Director of Compliance will have a strategic role in managing and optimizing compliance-related processes to support Accurate and Accurate's customers. They will ensure compliance with the FCRA, internal policies and procedures, and applicable state and local laws. This leader will also oversee a team of professionals in tracking the changing laws, creating communication to customers, and other compliance operations functions, driving performance, fostering collaboration, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality services.
Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain compliance policies and procedures aligned with U.S. legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements for background screening and Accurate’s operational compliance, including, but not limited to, Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), state-specific regulations, artificial intelligence, and data privacy.
- Monitor and analyze changes in laws, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Collaborate with leadership and other departments to integrate compliance into business operations, products, and services, including ensuring compliance with changing regulations
- Manage and resolve compliance-related complaints or customers escalations and follow through to resolution as necessary.
- Provide training and education to employees and customers on compliance requirements and regulatory updates.
- Achieving department objectives by leading their team, streamlining work processes, and overseeing performance metrics to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
- Attracting, recruiting, and hiring top talent while continuously developing and motivating their team through training, mentoring, and personal growth opportunities.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and make recommendations
- Ad hoc tasks and projects as needed
Expected Accomplishments
- Manage competing priorities and deliver quality information and analysis while adhering to deadlines
- Assess team members and processes to determine compliance and risk and provide recommendations to management
- Complete all scheduled training and prepare a list of various tasks/processes he/she deems important for the role
- Performs in-depth and complex research, fact gathering, analysis and interpretation
- Prepare reports and presentations by collecting, analyzing, and clearly and concisely summarizing information
- Enhance business processes by collecting and analyzing metrics to drive process improvement
- Establish, review and report on key metrics related to compliance-based services and performance
- Use metrics to drive product improvement and establish efficiency
- Develop knowledge and understanding of department functions
Requirements, Skills and Education
- 10+ years’ experience in background screening industry required
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent background screening industry experience desired. Emphasis on law or compliance administration is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of Compliance, FCRA and state background screening related laws required, including but not limited to, adverse action, dispute requirements, CRA and End User requirements
- Prior supervisory and leadership experience required
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to multi-task each day to meet schedule demands and complete tasks in a timely manner
- Effective communication and presentation, including conflict resolution
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Effectively troubleshoot and problem solve
- Ability to learn quickly and retain knowledge
- Ability to work independently and accomplish tasks without direct supervision
- Ability to work well with people from many different disciplines
- Basic computer skills, including working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Salesforce)
