Director, Competitive Insights

The Role

The Director, Competitive Insights will be the key lead for Competitive Intelligence and Industry Research within Asset Management. As part of the Asset Management Strategy & Planning team, this individual will develop an external industry perspective to inform Asset Management’s strategic priorities. This individual will bring their own ideas to further develop our competitive intelligence capabilities, identifying new, value-added analysis, and seeking to further engage our stakeholders with relevant and timely information. This will include:

  • Participating in ongoing Industry & Competitive Intelligence (“CI”) efforts, including researching current events, developing industry insights, and completing time-sensitive analysis of important news (e.g., mergers and acquisitions)
  • Leading and supporting the creation of monthly and quarterly competitive newsletters for an audience of ~1,000 internal associates
  • Synthesizing quantitative/qualitative intelligence and preparing comprehensive research studies on various investor segments; such studies would include market size, growth, structure, key players, barriers to entry, distribution models, competitive advantages/disadvantages
  • Developing and maintaining a pipeline of emerging industry trends and their potential business impact for Asset Management
  • Contributing to Fidelity’s broader CI ecosystem by partnering with peers in other divisions to share knowledge and insights

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • 7-10 years management consulting, corporate strategy, or industry research experience
  • Strong academic credentials: CFA, MBA or other relevant advanced degree preferred
  • Deep interest and curiosity in the Asset Management industry and competitive dynamics
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, including an ability to independently structure problems, execute analysis, and communicate findings
  • A spirit of continuous improvement to evolve existing processes and deliverables
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel
  • Familiarity with major asset management industry databases, such as SimFund, Bloomberg, and eVestment, is a plus but is not required

The Team

Asset Management Strategy & Planning is responsible for defining and communicating Asset Management’s business unit strategy, as well as helping to execute against our strategic plan and top priorities. Within this team, the Director, Competitive Intelligence plays a key role in scanning the external industry landscape for competitive trends, opportunities, and threats. Sitting within the Asset Management Finance organization, AM Strategy & Planning interacts frequently with leaders across the

business, including the CFO of Asset Management, the Head of Asset Management, and other members of the Senior Leadership Team.
