Lead Flock’s external communications and PR strategy, crisis communications, issues management, executive thought leadership, media relations, and brand narrative. The Problem

Every community deserves to be safe. Flock builds the technology that makes that real: last year we supported over 1 million criminal investigations and helped locate more than 10,000 missing people. We're building the impossible with over $1B in funding, and the expectations are high on purpose. If you want a role where the stakes are real and the pace matches (with incredibly supportive, smart colleagues in the foxhole with you), you’ve come to the right place.

We’re looking for a seasoned, pressure tested strategic communications leader to own our narrative, manage high-stakes media relations, and build an authentic brand presence that resonates with local communities, law enforcement, and future talent.

What You'll Own
  • Build and execute a proactive external communications and PR strategy that establishes Flock as the undisputed leader in public safety technology.

  • Own crisis communications and issues management, proactively mitigating narrative risks and protecting company reputation across all public platforms.

  • Partner with executive leadership to elevate founder and executive thought leadership, securing high-impact keynotes and top-tier media placements.

  • Establish clear, measurable metrics for brand sentiment, media reach, and narrative control across key growth markets.

  • You will report into the VP of Communications and also manage + grow a small but high performing team of media relations experts. You will also help manage external agency support.

What This Role is Not
  • Not a pure corporate mouthpiece. We don't do fluff or overly polished corporate speak; you must deliver clear, transparent, and high-impact messaging.

  • Not a passive reactive role. You won't just respond to press inquiries; you are expected to aggressively shape the narrative before others write it for us.

  • Not a hands-off delegate-only position. We operate with a high bias for action; you will write, strategize, and execute alongside your team. You will also be expected to grow and nurture your team to have strong judgment when working in high stakes environments with Tier 1 media.

What You Bring
  • Must-Have: 8-10 years of communications, media relations, or PR leadership experience, ideally within tech, public policy, or high-growth environments.

  • Must-Have: Proven track record of managing crisis communications, high-stakes public safety or policy narratives, and top-tier national media relationships.

  • Must-Have: Strong executive presence with experience media training and advising C-suite leaders.

  • Nice-to-Have: Policy comms experience or a desire to learn the function, players, and right strategies.

  • Nice-to-Have: Experience working within public sector, law enforcement, or civic technology landscapes.

Compensation

In this role, you'll receive a starting salary between $182,300 and $243,000 as well as Flock Stock Options. Flock does not offer performance bonuses. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, as well as market indicators. Your recruiter will discuss this in depth with you during our first chat.

Why Flock 💚

Every community deserves to be safe. Flock builds the technology that makes that real: last year we supported over 1 million criminal investigations and helped locate more than 10,000 missing people. We're 1,700 people building the impossible with over $1B in funding, and the expectations are high on purpose. If you want a role where the stakes are real and the pace matches, this is it.

📍Some problems get solved faster in the same room, so we prioritize candidates in Atlanta and Boston. Hub-based roles mean real in-person time with your coworkers. Remote roles exist, and when a posting is open to remote work, it says so.

🌟 the impossible takes every kind of mind. Flock is an equal opportunity employer, and we know the best solutions come from diverse perspectives, experiences, and skills working together with mutual respect. Everyone is welcome to apply. If you need assistance or an accommodation due to a disability, email [email protected]; your information stays confidential and is used only to arrange the right accommodation for your interviews.

💰 On compensation: we pay fairly for the work. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education, training, and market indicators. The range in this posting covers base salary only and doesn't include equity, sales bonus plans where applicable, or benefits. The range may be adjusted over time, and this posting may span more than one career level.

📣 One last thing: all legitimate communication from Flock comes from an email ending in @flocksafety.com or [email protected]. We never make offers through messaging apps or third parties, and we never request payment or sensitive personal information during hiring. If you encounter suspicious outreach about a Flock role, report it to [email protected].

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
