About this role

The Chief of Staff (CoS) will be a key partner to BlackRock’s Chief Legal Officer (CLO) and will work to prioritize engagements, prepare presentation materials for events, and complete special projects on a time-sensitive basis with high levels of discretion.

The CoS will manage all aspects of the CLO’s internal communications while serving as a central coordinator for the CLO’s activities.  The successful candidate will work with the goal of maximizing the CLO’s leadership effectiveness by delivering against the job responsibilities noted below.  The position will be based in our New York office.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Help the CLO manage and deliver against his priorities, including helping prioritize how he uses his time, drawing attention to necessary deliverables and avoiding bottlenecks.
  • Ensure that the CLO is appropriately prepared for all internal and external meetings, including interrogating materials to ensure the necessary information has been included.
  • Ensure accountable individuals are delivering necessary information and updates to the CLO in a timely, complete manner, and that materials are of highest quality.
  • Propose opportunities for the CLO to leverage his external appearances to build the brand of BlackRock’s L&C Department.
  • Proactively develop and manage a deep network within and outside of BlackRock and serve as an ambassador of relationships for the CLO.
  • Draft or assist in editing confidential communications and C-level presentations for the firm’s Board of Directors, Leadership Summits, and internal/external meetings.
  • Manage agendas for meetings chaired by the CLO and track follow-up items.
  • Gather feedback and input on meetings and presentations to foster continued improvement.

Skills / Experience:

  • Exceptional written communication skills, including the ability to deliver high-quality written work-product under time pressure.
  • Capable of deftly navigating a complex organization, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence. 
  • Compelling presentation skills and the ability to adapt quickly to new information.
  • Ability to operate autonomously, anticipating the materials and substance that will be of interest to the CLO in advance of their being required.
  • Prior experience initiating and managing large projects, driving them through to completion, while working with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Intellectually curious with the ability to take initiative and deliver results in a matrixed organization
  • Ability to synthesize and analyze large quantities of data to create useful information and concise conclusions
  • Good judgment; proven track record of engaging with senior executives and working with confidential information
  • The ideal candidate has a long-term commitment to BlackRock, possessing the knowledge to navigate the global organization and matrix in a highly resourceful manner
  • Results oriented and able to “roll-up the sleeves” to accomplish necessary tasks
  • BS/BA or higher, with a JD strongly preferred.


 

For New York, NY Only the salary range for this position is USD$194,000.00 - USD$270,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
