JOB SUMMARY

The Director of AI Finance Transformation is responsible for defining and executing the enterprise's AI strategy for Finance and leading the transformation of finance processes it enables. The incumbent identifies, prioritizes, builds, and scales AI and automation use cases on governed finance data, establishes the governance and controls under which they operate, and drives the process redesign and adoption required to convert capability into measurable value.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • AI Strategy & Roadmap for Finance:
    • Develop, articulate, and execute the AI strategy and multi-year roadmap for the finance organization, aligned to the enterprise finance technology strategy and enterprise AI direction.
    • Build and maintain the finance AI use case portfolio: intake, business case, prioritization, sequencing, and stage-gating from concept through pilot, production, and scale.
    • Partner with Enterprise Technology, Data Management, and Architecture to ensure finance AI is built on approved platforms and governed data rather than as standalone solutions.
    • Manage relationships with AI and automation vendors and consulting partners; evaluate build-versus-buy and challenge tooling that duplicates internal capability.
    • Stay current on AI capability in finance and translate it into practical, prioritized opportunity for the enterprise.
  • Delivery, Governance & Controls:
    • Lead the development, testing, implementation, adoption, and scaling of AI use cases for finance with appropriate governance.
    • Establish the finance AI operating model and governance framework: role clarity between human judgment and AI augmentation, validation requirements, source and evidence standards, model monitoring, and the conditions under which output may be used in decisions or leadership materials.
    • Ensure no unvalidated AI output flows into financial reporting, forecasts, or executive communication; humans own conclusions and accountability.
    • Define and track key performance indicators for adoption, cycle time, quality, and realized value; report progress and risk to finance leadership.
    • Ensure the integrity, security, and accuracy of data and models used in finance AI, and compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and standards related to AI, finance technology, and data privacy.
  • Finance Process Transformation & Adoption:
    • Lead the redesign of finance processes enabled by AI and automation across close and accounting, planning and forecasting, reporting and analysis, and finance operations.
    • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to automate manual work, strengthen data analytics, and improve efficiency within the finance function.
    • Build finance capability and AI literacy through training, playbooks, standards, and hands-on enablement so teams can use and explain the tools they operate.
    • Partner with business unit finance and cross-functional teams to secure adoption, measure benefit realization, and sustain change after deployment.
    • Support the AI and automation components of affiliation integration work as applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
