Summary:

The Director of Accounting owns the monthly close, financial reporting, and accounting controls for a wealth management business scaling quickly through acquisition, while also driving cross-functional work across accounting, operations, and advisor relations. The ideal candidate moves comfortably between technical accounting judgment and hands-on problem solving and is energized by building processes in a business.

Responsibilities:

• Own the monthly close and drive the team toward a 5-business-day close, coordinating billing, revenue share, and commission/bonus accruals across multiple entities and locations.

• Design and enforce controls over billing, revenue share, and journal entry tagging, including segregation of duties between client-facing staff and billing-critical data.

• Oversee billing operations across Black Diamond and NetSuite, driving toward standardized, fee calculation and invoicing.

• Manage the working relationship with the parent company’s shared services team for AP, payroll, and Workday-based workflows.

• Coordinate vendor and contract oversight, eliminating duplicative or expired spend and establishing a defined contract closeout process.

• Represent accounting in pre-signing diligence on new acquisitions, ensuring deal terms (deferred payments, earnouts, revenue share) are operationally trackable before contracts are executed.

• Assist in continuously improving the M&A integration playbook based on lessons learned from prior deals.

• Partner directly with wealth managers and relationship managers on billing, referral fee, and revenue share questions, translating between operational reality and accounting/legal requirements.

• Work with HR on compensation, bonus, and commission plan administration, ensuring contractual obligations are properly tracked and accrued.

• Act as the cross-functional communication link so that changes in billing arrangements or advisor structures are flagged to accounting before they take effect, not after.

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of accounting and finance professionals, building a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.

• Act as a trusted extension of the CFO on special projects, cross-functional initiatives, and executive-level communication.

• Translate CFO priorities into executable plans for the team, and surface ground-level operational realities back up to the CFO and leadership team.

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree from accredited university in Accounting, Finance, or related field, High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.

Basic Requirements:

• 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, preferably including direct experience in a private equity–backed portfolio company environment (required).

• Experience in financial services strongly preferred.

• Experience with Workday (or a comparable wealth management portfolio accounting platform) preferred.

• Experience with M&A integration, and post-close accounting cleanup.

• Demonstrated experience managing, mentoring, and developing a team.

• Advanced Excel proficiency and demonstrated comfort building process and structure where none currently exists.

Preferred Requirements:

• Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.

• Experience within wealth management, financial services, registered investment advisory (RIA), or professional services environments.

• Experience supporting acquisitions and post-acquisition integration efforts.

• Familiarity with multi-entity accounting structures and private equity-backed organizations.
