Funded by a mix of government R&D organizations, commercial customers, and private funding, Specter is a growing aerospace and defense startup. Close relationships with MIT, Notre Dame, AFRL, NRL, ANL, and other research organizations provide access to cutting-edge developments, facilities, and personnel. Specter is expanding its team in preparation for flight testing and full-scale production.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Build, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines that support software development, testing, and deployment across engineering teams

  • Collaborate with Security Lead to integrate security tooling and best practices into DevOps workflows
  • Support hardening efforts for development and deployment environments, including container images and supporting infrastructure
  • Maintain source control repositories and implement secure configuration and access practices
  • Support automated scanning, monitoring, and observability systems for infrastructure and workloads
  • Generate operational documentation for pipelines, build systems, and infrastructure configurations
  • Provide guidance to engineering teams on best practices for building, deploying, and maintaining reliable systems
  • Participate in risk assessments, system reviews, and infrastructure improvements
  • Assist with cross‑functional tasks involving IT, engineering, and security teams as operational needs evolve

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or combination of equivalent experience and certifications
  • Experience with CI/CD concepts, modern build systems, and automation tooling
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies and image lifecycle management
  • Experience with Linux‑based systems in production or development environments
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, especially with engineering‑focused teams
  • Ability to document system changes, configurations, and operational procedures clearly
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance

Desired Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience in DevOps, infrastructure engineering, or systems administration; 5 or more years of total IT experience is preferred
  • Exposure to security or compliance frameworks (such as NIST‑based controls) is beneficial
  • Direct experience with Docker and Podman containerization
  • Security+ required or attained within 6-months of employment; additional certifications such as Terraform Associate, Docker Certified Associate, Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD), GitLab/GitHub CI/CD certifications, RHCSA, or other relevant DevOps/Linux credentials are considered a plus
