About this role:
Pickle Robot is on the hunt for a DevOps Engineer to help scale the platform that powers our fleet of warehouse-automation robots. Our robots do the toughest job on the dock: unloading trucks. We’re growing fast, and you’ll be the engineer who keeps our infrastructure reliable, our deployments smooth, and our development workflows friction-free.
In this role, you’ll build and maintain the cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, and deployment systems that keep our robots running nationwide. You’ll pair on larger initiatives and run smaller projects with light guidance — taking a ticket from fuzzy to shipped. Your work will directly influence how we scale as we expand deployments across the country.
If you’re excited about building infrastructure that makes a real physical product work better in the world — and you thrive in a small team with high ownership — we’d love to meet you.
Responsibilities:
Build apps, tools, and CLIs to improve the developer, operations, and end-user experiences when interacting with our platform and processes.
Create and deploy Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for GCP — including IAM, Artifact Registry, Cloud Run/Compute, load balancers/IAP, and Cloud DNS and other development infrastructure.
Identify and eliminate friction across software development, hardware commissioning, and operations workflows — through tooling, automation, or process changes.
Design for security by default: least-privilege IAM, service-to-service auth, secrets management, and supply chain provenance.
Write crisp documentation, PR templates, and lightweight runbooks that people actually use.
Requirements:
6+ years in software engineering, with a track record of creating and deploying production software.
Depth in programming and in the full deployment stack: dependency management, packaging, and deployment of Python or C++ applications.
Hands-on with Ubuntu/Debian administration (installs, configuration, networking) and containerization (lifecycle management, multi-container deployments).
Strong expertise with Terraform: remote state, modules, plan reviews, and running plans in CI.
Hands-on experience with public cloud infrastructure management (GCP preferred): IAM, compute (Cloud Run or GCE), networking/LB, storage, PubSub, Artifact Registry.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines: reusable workflows, caching, secrets/attestations, and WIF/OIDC integration to GCP.
Strong observability fundamentals — metrics vs. logs, alert design — with hands-on experience using Prometheus and Grafana.
A bias to automate and document; comfortable taking a loosely defined task all the way to done.
Pragmatic about trade-offs; able to explain the “why,” not just the “what.”
Knows how to ask AI the right questions and can critically evaluate the outputs.
Experience in robotics or warehouse automation strongly preferred.
Experience with fleet management or IoT device provisioning at scale.
Familiarity with Machine Learning / MLOps preferred.
Willing and able to work from our Charlestown, MA office at least 3 days per week.
