Defend the digital world and design the future of security at Rapid7!

As cybercriminals become more sophisticated, we need to provide simple, yet powerful solutions to help our customers defend their digital environments. Are you up for the challenge?

The Opportunity and Essential Responsibilities

Our team is looking for a spirited UX Lead to support 2 of our growing product areas: SIEM and SOAR. This designer will lead a team of UX designers to create thoughtful product experiences that drive customer outcomes and help them achieve their cybersecurity goals.

This role is a mixture of strategy and tactics: you’ll still drive the creation of design work while providing design direction for the SIEM and SOAR solutions and team.

This is a great opportunity to get design leadership experience, while still having the ability to help craft solutions. Not only will you help own the design direction for these product areas, you’ll also have many opportunities to grow your career along the way. This is a management-track role, so we are seeking out someone that is interested in management long term.

In this role, you’ll partner with your UX, PM, and engineering counterparts to:

  • Help own and drive the evolution of our SIEM and SOAR solutions.

  • Influence the future of our product portfolio.

  • Drive meaningful outcomes that contribute to the company's bottom line and customer success.

A Snapshot of the Work You’ll Be Doing

As the Lead UX Designer for SIEM + SOAR, you’ll manage a small team with professional development, creative direction, and dedicated mentorship. This includes working with the team to realize strategy, receive and give critique, and manage the design work and all associated artifacts.

You’ll lead the SIEM + SOAR UX team to:

  • Create and iterate on user flows, journey maps, sketches, low and high fidelity visual mockups, and functional prototypes; you know, typical design stuff.

  • Partner with product management to deeply understand user needs, help define requirements, and proactively influence the roadmap with usability enhancements.

  • Collaborate with our User Research Team to coordinate, manage, and/or run user interviews, user testing, and other research functions to validate user needs, effectiveness of design solutions, and to help drive adoption of the design solutions you create.

  • Partner with the Visual Design Team and UX Engineering Team to polish UI designs, work within and contribute to our design system, and ensure necessary design elements are available to UX and engineering partners.

  • Team up with the Docs Team to craft in-product content experiences, help identify documentation needs, and ensure a cohesive editorial tone across our product brand.

  • Support engineering during implementation with direct partnership and collaboration, early technical feasibility discussions, and annotated design deliverables.

  • Work closely with other UXers, product management, and engineering to manage, plan, and scope UX team projects and product-wide projects. You’ll also help determine UX acceptance criteria, drive completion and delivery of projects, and ensure that implementation follows design and product requirements.

You...

  • Demonstrate strong leadership. You lead by example and help drive the design vision and strategy for your product area, while also working alongside your team on tactical details with domain knowledge and design expertise.

  • Are unafraid of ambiguity. You push forward and lead the team through unclear direction, and not only drive defining that direction, but you also help to build up this skill in the UX team you’re working with.

  • Are skillful at synthesizing complex concepts into usable and polished design deliverables. You can translate strategy, business requirements, research findings, and usability best practices into high quality, customer-centric design solutions that support and reinforce product vision, brand, and business objectives.

  • Understand product and design are about tradeoffs. You balance and identify user experience, business needs, technical feasibility, and time-to-market to determine the best design solutions that meet customer goals.

  • Believe deep partnership is the root of success. You naturally build strong partnerships across the organization, and you know how to create consensus, drive alignment, and influence outside your reporting chain.

  • See process as a means to deliver value. You understand the complete design lifecycle with relation to agile principles and software development, and balance the right amount of process across your stakeholders with a focus on driving customer outcomes.

  • Are a strong and dynamic communicator. You have the ability to tell a story and craft a narrative that compels your audience, drives alignment, and prompts action.

  • Lead with a strong sense of accountability. You have excellent time management skills, and hold your team accountable to commitments.

  • Imbue energy, enthusiasm, and curiosity. You bring yourself every day, and cultivate an environment where continuous learning and disciplined risk taking are supported and encouraged.

Additional Details

  • We are looking for a candidate that has roughly 4-8 years of relevant experience; this includes holding previous roles as a product designer, UX designer, visual designer, or equivalent experience. Mostly, we’re looking for someone with great design experience and instincts, as well as the ability to bring others along with them.

  • This role will manage a team of 4 designers across Boston and Dublin, Ireland. We are open to first time managers, and have great internal programs to train up new and experienced managers.

  • We need someone that can travel occasionally, both domestically and internationally. Rapid7 has 7 offices with UX team members present across North America and Europe. One direct report is currently located in our Dublin, Ireland office.

An Insider's view of Rapid7

What does your typical day look like?

For the majority of the day it’s a mix of weekly check-ins with various teams, project updates, and the occasional brainstorm.

When I’m not in meetings I’ve got headphones in while planning, writing, or designing — at my desk or perched somewhere around the office.

Grace

Senior Brand Storyteller

How has your career grown since starting at the company?

Ive been on many teams in my time at Rapid7 and they have certainly “grown” from a size perspective, but more importantly, they all evolved with the changing times and needs. Some of the teams I was on were critical for our sales grown in an emerging market and though they no longer exist by name, I can see the tangible impact we made.
