Research Analytics Technical Lead
At WHOOP, we're on a mission to unlock human performance. WHOOP empowers users to perform at a higher level through a deeper understanding of their bodies and daily lives.
Our vast, physiological dataset enables research at scales that have previously been impractical or prohibitively expensive through traditional academic processes. The research team at WHOOP leverages this dataset to conduct original research for publication and to enable novel features in our consumer product. We are seeking an accomplished analyst with experience publishing original scientific research to lead our small but growing research team. The ideal candidate will leverage a wide array of statistical techniques and is excited to bring new insights to the scientific community and to our members.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work cross-functionally with the Data Science, Enterprise, Product, and Marketing teams to deliver physiological insights.
- Design small- and large-scale experiments that help answer our member and prospective members’ questions from the three pillars of WHOOP science.
- Provide analysis of data that is both scientifically and statistically sound while also digestible by non-technical clients. Analysis will be delivered through our content marketing streams (social, blog, podcast) as well as peer reviewed scientific journals, and will need to be tailored to fit these different audiences.
- Scale the team and its processes
- Develop and grow the team’s capabilities
- Split time between directly contributing to our data science initiatives and leading/managing a small team of analysts. We anticipate this split to be roughly 70% direct contribution and 30% management.
- Reports to the VP of Data Science and Research
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree in computational biology, mathematics, statistics, data science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of full-time professional experience in a related area
- 5+ years experience applying advanced mathematical and statistical techniques
- Experience publishing academic research in peer reviewed journals with preference given to experience with research involving human subjects.
- Proficiency in statistics and significance testing
- Proficiency in data visualization
- Proficiency in scientific Python or R, Git, and SQL
- Ability to formulate hypotheses, draw conclusions and deliver results
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to present findings to stakeholders and communicate results to technical and non-technical audiences
- Prior management or mentorship experience is preferred
